You May Come Aboard

We ask of you now
What skills do you possess?
For in the new world
Giving defines progress

We ask only for life
And not self-interest
What will be left behind
Will no longer exist

I am a man of passage
By air, land or sea
I follow Cassiopeia and Orion
For light from dark is how I see

A mariner by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And by your guidance
We will find our reward

I am a man of construct
By hammer, saw and nail
Will you know of comfort
Without my talents to avail?

A carpenter by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And by your shelter
We will find our reward

I am a man of nourishment
I will reach into the sea
By hook, line and sinker
This you will be taught by me

A fisherman by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And by your daily bread
We will find our reward

I am a man of creation
I bring brush, voice and fifths
By color, words and melody
You will know of your gifts

An artist by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And by your daily song
We will find our reward

I am a man of healing
And a facilitator of birth
I will reach into my bag
And life I will bring forth

A doctor by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And by your oath
We will find our reward

I am a man of spirituality
And you will know of no darkness
For the spirit that flows inside
Will remind you of God’s promise

A holy man by trade
Yes you may come aboard
And through your prayers
We will find our reward

Yes we will know our reward
When we give more than we receive
There is nothing to manipulate
There is no gain to which we cleave

We imagine a new world order
Where no man shall rule the kingdom
There will be no earthly wealth
Only the Garden of Eden

Yes, my friend, this is the new world order that we certainly long to have, and with prayers we may receive. Thanks for sharing this nice poem and very uplifting.

My question is who gets to decide who comes aboard?

I do, then I will cut the line and wave goodbye as they embark to a world where lawyerly questions are no longer welcome. And I will stand next to you as you then ask why I didn't go with them and I will answer: because there is to be no king.... they will make it work....

@thephoenixlives - I'm glad you took my comment in the spirit it was intended... the poem of course is pure fantasy and in that vein not only can a society live together undominated by personality but I also can be a selfless person who could sacrifice himself for the greater good. Of course in real life I am probably quite the opposite... so these types of platitudes help me to think of these things....

You may not believe this but I was initially annoyed by your question and I thought about it a bit before I responded. Afterwards it was on my mind and I was reminded that nothing is easy; your question of course was relevant and it showed how easily a fantasy can be challenged.

The Suburban Poet, it was a challenge until your response. If more people done as you and thought it through before responding and gave a soft and tranquil response to draw others in, we could possibly have the fantasy you dream of here on earth.

It was not a challenge to belittle, but to know the intent of the heart and the writing, and your response could only be answered in one word, beautiful!

Thanks for your candor, spirit and attitude, I believe you can rest in peace tonight knowing you made a complete stranger smile because of what you shared.

Thanks.

What can I say but thank you... I'm as human as the next guy and will admit to having a quick trigger finger on my emotions. I know the complete naivete of the poem can turn people off as it is fantasy but like I said it can help me think of what is right and what is necessary at times. I want to think in this manner and have to drop my ego off at the corner because it was pretty arrogant to assume my poem considered all possibilities and realities...
