You don't have to but it helps......

We only have one of these left
this thing called America
Yet so many would have us believe
that it just another place
Just another place..............

Sadly, we now have great numbers of people who want to replace America with "something else".

They are not totally clear on what that "something else" really is. It seems the new thinking is we should all be government property, totally dependent on government for pretty much everything, with few or any personal freedoms or rights.

I'm glad I was born at the right time to enjoy America at her finest, and will not live long enough to see her completely destroyed.

I hold to optimistic realism & realistic optimism. I see some hopeful signs, though the other kind are so strong. Mankind has weathered and survived quite awhile through all kinds of setbacks. From some of those historic times, better times have arisen. This country may be one of those 'arisens' of history, in fact. Why would it crumble with the variety of setbacks which have plagued history for millennia? We're not immune, but we're the 'youth' in this country with much vitality & determination. I definitely won't live long enough to see her eventual resolution, but I certainly won't give up now. I was born during the main time of her Great Depression which was a strong challenge - but it strengthened the people & propelled them into a resurge. My parents were very much touched by all the down-time. The government is a nonentity without the people. We are the people. We must take heart, rather than lose it.

@Nellieanna - I guarantee you that if all we do is "hope," it will not improve. Our government is currently filled with power hungry and greedy individuals who have been there far too long. They will do nothing to jepordize their own positions, no matter what is being done to we little people.

Until these people are replaced with individuals that really are concerned with what is happening in this country, all we will ever have is more of the same only on a rapidly accelerating basis.

The only place we can do this is in the voting booth and it needs to happen.

I am no one's property.. I am American. The only Allegience I pledge is to God and to that flag that represents America, but it represents past America, not the America of today, that is divided and falling. That is being run by idiots and hypocrites and yes power hungry, greedy individuals. That is not the America I know and Love. That is the America that the government has made it out to be. A bunch of lazy, codependent, welfare junkies, a bunch of worker bees for minumum wage, to supply their paychecks with our money. While they sit upon their riches. Seems like the only way to get on top is to lie and cheat your way there. Give the people what they want to hear but never give them the change they want to see. Most people just go along with what ever happens happens, and frankly i am kind of one of those people, but its getting harder and harder to sit idly by and watch as America falls apart. I am fed up with the government and what they "think" is "best" for us. They only want to take away our power over them, and our protection from them. We need to get America back to how its supposed to be, a land made home for the Brave and the FREE.

@Nikkij504gurl - Agree 100% with your comment. Now how do we do that when fewer and fewer citizens even bother to vote? Two weeks before the last election, man-in-the-street interviews exposed that we had people who didn't even know who was running for President.

Until we get people informed and showing up at the voting booth we will only have more of the same.

All right people, time to get your writing fingers going. Write to your representatives and tell them what we want. Tell them to get busy and do their jobs.

@ahorseback - I hate to say this, but it might already be too late.

I hear many say they don't bother to vote because their vote doesn't count anyway. How can you argue with false logic like that? In some cases, they know so little it might be better they don't vote.

I wish a test could be required prior to allowing anyone to vote. They should at least know their own representatives and who is running for President and VP. Of course if testing were required, we would probably be down to around 20% showing up at the polls.
