Your Presence

Source

There is not a single soul on Earth

With whom to share these thoughts and fears

Confined within my mind, worse things seem to birth

It's times like this I wish that you were here

With a palpable presence that is undeniable

And a sense of peace and comfort that is indefinable

Right now, it is all I can do just to fight these tears

Threatening to pour fourth with unwelcome relief

Unless you with your unconditional love are near

To reinforce that in myself I can still have belief

I would give almost anything to feel your hug

An embrace that says I'm safe no matter what

That is such a sweet thing to say, FlourishAnyway! I hope that you are not either. No, not lonely during the holidays, especially since three kiddos see to that. I do, however, get nostalgic for the holidays of childhood years when cousins, grandparents, aunts, and uncles all came together to spend hours together. Now days, it seems like people pop in for a few minutes and then are gone again. Or they live too far away to visit.

Oh, my, Shan. What can I say? It’s an amazing, powerful statement which seems to express gnawing emotional hunger and thirst and a deep sense of loss; yet there is the shining hope in it, which remains so intense and real it is, - as you declare, - palatable.

Could any mere human quench, satisfy or fulfill it? Doubtful; and you admit there is none.

So, if there were no actual spiritual comforter, surely one would have to be invented. But, as your title proclaims, “Your Presence” is the reality longed for and which you know is there, bringing safety even during and throughout an emotional famine.

And also there are some mere humans to hug you, to hold your hand and share your hope and faith.

Hugs. . . .

Thank you, Nellieanna. I sort of doubt you are at a loss of words to start off with very often. ;)

I don't speak of a "gnawing emotional hunger" that is ever present, but rather the kind that is there when one is in those dire straits you mentioned in your hub. It's not a need in the sense of being emotionally clingy or dependent on someone else. In that sense, I can and do stand on my own two feet. I cannot expect anyone else to always be there for me anymore than I can be expected to fulfill a need like that for anyone else.

However, when someone cares enough to want to know the truth of what is thought, feared, despaired, deeply felt in the moment. . .it makes a difference. Yet, I, for one, am selective about those I share those thoughts with, if anyone at all. Sometimes there is no one that wants to be or that is available even if being there is desired, though, which is why I regard it as such a gift when it does occur. It is one thing to share in passing about events that occurred after the fact, but it is quite another to be able to allow someone in enough to share them as they are in progress.

In a way, perhaps that is even a gift in itself to the one offering compassion. I think so, and I don't take it for granted when someone lets me in enough to share in those moments of darkness or those requiring serious thought and perhaps a sounding board. It's not the same as a spiritual comforter, but the hope and faith shared is still palpable. So is the caring.

Another beautiful poem. The Lord indeed is always near and always ready to embrace us, in times of sorrow and in times of joy.

God bless you.

I guess I'm reading this after the fact, but be sure its not lost on me. I do have post-empathy.. - once some people wrote down everything they saw that was wrong, or needs? in a spiral notebook, and dated it.. then, as the months went by I think every single need or event was answered. when a prayer is prayed, a need is sent away, it might seem forever to us, but it will be answered. sometimes its when we make a change and suddenly it pops from turning that corner, or when we least expect!

Thank you, Oscar. No one can or will comfort like the Lord. If I ever learn to lean more on Him before I need to, I'll be much better off.
