You're Mine But You Don't Know It Yet

Is it the reflection of my heart in your eyes
Or the light you bring to my life?
It’s a room I enter every time I think of you
As I close the door behind me
I wonder why anyone would ever leave such a place

Is it you who gave your heart away
Or did I just reach inside you and take it for myself?
It’s a selfishness that is stronger than lust
As I force you to notice me
I wonder how anyone would ever let you go

Is it the beating of my heart that keeps me awake
Or am I afraid of the dream?
It’s a moment I always regret
As I awaken and you’re not with me
I wonder why anyone would ever live inside a fantasy

Wow, what a powerful poem about a love not yet brought to fruition -- the longing, the poignancy ... you write about it so beautifully. Loved it!

The title drew me in almost immediately, and the poetry more than kept me there. This is a wonderful ad very thoughtful poem about unrequited love.

“Is it the beating of my heart that keeps me awake

It’s a moment I always regret

As I awaken and you’re not with me

Excellent. :-)

You bring the reader right into the experiences of longing, as he's feeling it almost as being real as reality, but then - the sharp snap back into the actual reality that it's not part of it and the anti-climax and disappointment.

Every nuance of frustration in it comes through in the words. - The form of the poem is especially lovely and appropriate to the message, too, Mark.

@praireprincess - Thank you. It's that moment where you're getting worked up for the passion...

@Genna - Thank you. It's the question of the longing and how long can you live with it without getting on with your life or making it happen.

@Nellieanna - Hello... thank you and the longing can really become powerful; almost too much for those who are not healthy enough to manage it. I've had the feeling before....

@raciniwa - Wait, how can you be in limbo? You're not supposed to know yet! Ha.... maybe the woman just needs to go up and push his buttons and get him to act...
