Sure- build something worth reading and they will come... poetry is tough- look to publishers on west coast- san fransico area publishers my sug- peace
Poetry can be written in many formats, and interpreted in even more ways because we each think individually.
I have written mostly about my life and people like my poems, shockingly the worst things in my life seem to be the most popular! Haha!
I found ways to put comedy into such a traumatic relationship and people admired that I could laugh at it.
The title has to be something that would entice a reader, and then the opening few lines have to be something to make that reader want to continue. I was concerned about adding a piece of prose thinking no one would read it, but it's my most popular hub!
I write nonsense too, lines that just pop in my head that I just add to some paper and store it until I get to my laptop. Check out my work, it's all quite different.
Do you mean national recognition? Then you need to win a contest such as the William Faulkner Poetry contest or get published in several well-known mags such as Poets and Writers. It must be a well-known and well-respected contest or magazine. The more you win or get published in those types of publications, the more recognition you'll get.
If you just mean a following? Well that's marketing and self promotion. Try a website fed by live readings, online readings, and networking.

Why isn't poetry popular? The only thing I really do on hubpages is write poetry. I mean, I am going to expand my topic area, but it disappoints me how unpopular poetry is. Is there a way for me to increase my traffic to my poem hubs?

I just reread the rules for the contest, and it states that poems should be 500 words. Mine is 210. Is the introduction counted in the word count? Thanks.

If you are a poet, do you ever submit poems to (legitimate) poetry contests?Do you know about or belong to poetry associations? Also, do you ever submit poems to either online or print publications?

I am new to HubPages and have enjoyed reading quite a bit of poetry. I want to go on record that I am not an English teacher, but I am a person who enjoys poetry. So here is my comment and a question I suppose.I have been surprised and puzzled by the number of poems that are...
