Not 100% positive, but I'm thinking Ursula K. Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea.
I'm sure some of the reason is nostalgia (I discovered it in my early teens), but whenever I come across a mention of it I feel compelled to give it another read.
Actually many books, it is hard to define which is best. I but I like the book To Kill the Mockingbird.
I'd have to say my favorite book right now is "The Poisonwood Bible" by Barbara Kingsolver. Also "To Kill A Mockingbird".
I have so any. The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, Pride and Prejudice, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Giovanni's Room. I can't choose just one.
To Kill A Mockingbird is excellent. Oh I love The Catcher in the Rye too, it comes in close second to Germinal. Also, If On a Winter's Night a Traveller is a fascinating read.
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is my all-time favorite
