What is it that make a poem below standard?

Is it too short? Does it need a photo or video? Does it need links?

One poem I wrote about Babe Ruth kept being flagged as Substandard.  I tried several rewrites and had to eventually delete the poem in disgust.  I was getting a steady readership, so I thought the content was acceptable.  I guess I was wrong.

My work was somewhat unorthodox and I guess that due to the poem not conforming to the status quo, it was tagged.

If you have a poem that does not tell a story or have a particular meaning then then maybe post it in the 'nonsense poetry' category. If you believe your poem tells a particular story and is more than say 8 lines in length and is being flagged, email the HP team, let them have a look at it.

Flagging is usually done by the readers so the staff will take a look at it. The reason for the flagging will be displayed on top of the hub. Read the reasons carefully and make the changes. If you do not understand then send an Email in and I assure you will get an answer.

Try not to make the poem too short.

As students, we were taught the rules of  poetry, but now it does not seem to matter any more. Those strict rules are either out or they are being disregarded. That leaves room for the content of the poem, and I think the quality of the poem determines its standard.

One of mine is currently flagged as substandard and I think that it is because it has too many links to Amazon.  I'm not sure.  It's either that or a person has an issue with sobriety.smile
