In truth "Jesus Christ" as we know him takes on both roles; Jesus the Carpenter, and Jesus the Son of God. The distinguishing factor is the main point that there are things described in the Bible that Jesus simply did not do-- not to offend anyone, but some of the stories of Jesus are borrowed tales that were floating around at the time of Jesus' life (which in itself could be any stretch of years). To be totally historical, there is little evidence that crucifixion was even the result of Jesus' death. So in one respect, there is a character in a story, who is known as Jesus Christ who did lots of wonderful things, but who is examined often as a metaphor for the things he preached (or may have preached), such as kindness and love for all. But Jesus in the historical, factual, and scientific sense is just like you and me: a hard working guy who had twelve friends and traveled a bit. Hope that helps!
