I think my worst experience was when I was 13, I was sick and my parents had gotten divorced which wasn't a big deal. However I got stuck with my mother who hated me and when I was at my worst health wise she thought it would be nice to tell me it would be easier if I just died. It was really hard for me to ever let that go, I constantly had to fight feelings of inadequacy and often deemed myself as seemingly unloveable, if the woman who gave me life hated me how could anyone else love me? Anyways while I still don't have a good relationship with this woman I have grown old enough to realize she was hurting herself at the time and while what she said was hurtful it didn't define me. So I guess it all worked out in the silver lining sense.

My parents' divorce was the worst for me--it meant the loss of my father altogether, and the loss of my mom part-time, plus what was then a serious stigma.  That loss has a lot to do with who I am today.

The problem in writing about it would be in learning to remember it clearly enough.  At the time I turned away from the present, which makes it very tough to recall in any detail.  But the tone of prolonged misery is quite unmistakable.

My worst is when my mom died.  She had gone into the hospital for a blood transfusion but just got worse and worse (lymphatic cancer) and so one morning the phone rang and they told my aunt that her temp. was going up and they didn't really know what that meant.

The next call maybe a couple of hours later was that she had died.  I was 15 and listening to some records I got for my birthday just days before.  Bus Stop by the Hollies.  Still hard to hear that song.

Finding out one of your children is not making the right choices and feeling like a complete failure as a parent. There is no worse pain. It feels like someone shoved a machete into your chest and tweaked out your heart. Then, you pick up the pieces and move on, because you love your child no matter what.

I also, as a Christian, stand on the truth of God's word. He has promised me that if I raise a child up in the way he should go, that when he is old he will not depart from it.

Losing people you love is a similar kind of pain. There is a grieving process.

At the tender age of eleven my beautiful son was diagnosed with spinal meningitis. It was the most terrifying time of my life and it hurt so much to see him in so much agony. With the help of our doctor/friend he made it through but knowing I came so close to losing him was the worst time of my life.

When I was seventeen and had been living with my dad in a brand new place for barely a week his phone rang. My dad yelled for me to pick it up. My mother's boyfriend told me to sit down which I thought was strange.  He then told me my mother had been in a car accident and she "didn't make it."  I didn't understand. He had to tell me she was dead.

I lost the next two days and haven't regained them still twenty four years later.  What made it worse was that less than a week later her boyfriend tried to file an insurance claim on her death and when he found out the insurance claim was in my name, he was furious.  He destroyed or sold everything she owned before we could get it from her house.

I have no doubt to this day that the boyfriend had something to do with her death.  There was a lot of speculation about his involvement.  He successfully disappeared.
