   There are over 1.5 million words in English Language . It expands daily as English adapts,borrows, steals, expands and assimilates. However, the average adult vocabulary could be 20000 or less. A lot of the words Are highly technical and may not be used commonly.
   
   The NYTimes only uses around 1200 words in general and this is enough to get by! Learning new words hits a plateau around mid twenties unless one reads, writes, or develops a profession with a brand new technical vocabulary.
   
   I love learning new words and enjoy writing about them, 'every word has a story! ' ( that's what those hubs are called) . Hubpages are rich with new words and terms as a melting pot of writers ply their craft.

   Its almost impossible to tell because some words may have more than one meaning and because new words are added constantly, however the estimate is around 1,200,00 and counting.
