For me, there are TWO things (sorry, my bad)....
two things that compel me to write.
Conversation and Curiosity.
I love to meet folks. As I ride my bicycle, wait in line or feed a whining cat; a conversation is born. The subject is always new, sometimes surprising... but never dull.
People (and some cats) are thinking about things new and often surprising to me. Their conversations make me think. They often lead me to see a subject in a new way.
That newness is really such a simple thing; I guess I could easily ignore it or just take it for granted. Other folks all seem to have this THING that I don't.
They have a point of view that is different than my own.
So how does conversation inspire me to write? I listen. I listen with an open mind ...and maybe even allow for my heart to be open too. -I try to allow my imagination to enter their shoes, hear their thoughts, feel their feelings.
It's easy to write when you are some new and often surprising character. I often write by stepping into someone else's shoes. It's like magic for me.
CURIOSITY...that's my other inspiration. I love to watch.
The other day I saw a beautiful flight of geese passing overhead. They were honking and jockeying for position. It made the V of their passing wriggle and jump.
And I wondered, on this cold, winter day....Don't birds fly south for the winter?
Why are these guys flying EAST? (Lol.)
So I made up excuses for them.
And as I continued to make myself laugh at these geese; I could also see how my own, very nieve notions, of how birds SHOULD or SHOULD NOT behave; was getting pretty amusing too.
So I'm inspired to write by conversation..and curiosity. Cable's got nothin' compared to that.
