It depends on who's asking and why.  If you're applying for a professional writing job of any sort, typically self-published work doesn't count as there are little if any standards when publishing your own work.  In other words, anyone can publish just about anything on HubPages, just like a blog, so employers aren't typically interested in that work.

You would have to ask if they count work that is self-published. Probably not, I would think.

Good question and helpful answers. Guess I won't add hubpages to resume. Maybe they would make good writing samples if requested??

I don't see why not. You can also include the link to your work so that they can view it for themselves. Imagine someone reading all those encouraging comments or even conflicting ones which you've answered with tact and intelligence! Good work is good work, especially if you've been doing it for a while.

I asked this question because I am about to enrol in London School of Journalism's course and I was asked I have had work published.

Telll them what experience you have at Hubpages. It's not wrong to do so as long as you don't claim that it's the best type of experience. But it does in reality help you get better. Good luck and know that I envy you. All the best.

I think, it should count. You are into writing and your work is published as well. Let them have a look at the samples. Specifications about the subject matter, word count, whether you suit their requirement or not  etc. can be discussed with them.
    Good luck.

In your cover letter, iInclude links to items you published here on hub pages (or other similar sites) that are relavent to the job you are applying for. This will give the employer a tatse of your writing skill as well as an indication that you know or understand the nature of the work you may be hired to perform and that you understand the nature of what the company does.
