I don't know. I've got a couple of stories posted here on HubPages, and sadly the traffic to both pages is negligible. The Toy Wizard has gotten 16 total page views, and The Maker of Destiny has gotten 37. The Maker of Destiny has been up since mid April. So, I would say they don't generate a lot of organic traffic.
As for what you were talking about with Anita, I'd honestly say, from what I've seen, you're not going to get a lot of traffic writing articles about how to write either. Most of my Hubs to date are in that particular section, and the views for those articles, some of them, are worse than the views for my short stories.
What I have noticed is traffic to broad topics bring in views. Like a review of a movie or video game. My Hub A Review of Star Trek Online: Legacy of Romulus accounts for more than two thirds of my total views thus far.
My suggestion is to find a broad topic you enjoy writing about, like the reviews, then use those topics to promote your other Hubs, directing traffic towards your short stories and Hubs on writing. I'm going to guess that's a good way to make it happen, though I've not put it into practice yet, so I'm not sure.
I also use Facebook, Twitter, and my blog to promote my Hubs. Organic traffic is a pain in the ass, so most of the time, you're going to have to advertise to get it. It's a little bit harder. But, the effort pays off, I'm sure.
