   What do 'Fifty Shades of Grey', the 'Holy Bible', & 'Two Boys Kissing' all have in common?
   
   These three books and others made the American Library Association's 2015 most challenged books list. A 'challenge' is defined as a formal, written complaint submitted by an individual to a school or public library asking that the book be removed from the public library. These books are frequently challenged over sexual content, profanity, violence, and depictions of racism. What reasons (plural) do you think the 'Holy Bible' was challenged for?

   I understand it is challenged because of the numerous violent stories.  That is why it has been subject to censorship.  It also refers to numerous blatant crude sex acts.  Here's a link:

      I understand various denominations have different versions of the Bible, depending on their emphasis.  Catholics traditionally did not allow its congregation to read the Bible.  Wonder what they were hiding???

      I could write a hub on this. Christianity got its 41,000 sectors by quibbling over a bunch of fine points; they're so caught up in it, they miss the Big picture. This makes them easier to take advantage of.

      Catholics want to keep the congregation docile, obedient, mindless, & powerless -MORE power for priests to control them via infallible power from the pope whom they believe is God on Earth.  The Catholic Church is very strange to say the least.

      FEAR.The Catholic Church is one of the most outmoded religious INSTITUTION.It's abnormal in scope-being afraid of normal human sexual expression & totally against women. It's TWISTED beyond belief!!!

   Austinstar, superlative question indeed.  You ask some of the most intriguing, intelligent questions around.  You make people think, a thousand applauses to you.
   
   These books advocate the abject sadism of people considered to be lesser.  They also equate sex to the negative, sinful, even evil practice oftentimes tinged with degrees of guilt.  They also advocate, even push the subjugation of those deemed lesser & powerless in our culture & society.  They emphasized strict, even abhorrent inequality in terms of relationships.  Also, they have oppressed people adopting the Stockholm syndrome.

   I don't think any book should be banned with maybe the exception of books that are pure porn-I wouldn't categorize 50 Shades as pure porn.  I remember one time a school was banning a bunch of books because of different issues.  One was Huckleberry Finn because of racist slurs-such as the overuse of the "N" word.  And it got to the point that one of the teachers got frustrated and told the other staff that she wanted to take The Bible out the school library as well because of the Slaughter at Shechem story in Genesis. Since this was a Catholic School, many of the staff changed their minds about removing the books.
