    In your writer's opinion -professional or otherwise- do you consider Internet-only

    publication of your story to count as being published? Or is it along the same lines as publishing on your own blog, and therefore, doesn't really count as much.

    What do you mean? explain further.. Every thing I write.. I have been through and would say out loud.. I use hubpages as some website I store information in about my life.. and poems that other people can admire me for .. as long as i know i admire myself and will not be brought down by other.. if you like my work come visit my website.

    Clarification: 

    Publishing material *yourself* as in uploading to a blog and/or HubPages and/or any other Internet source is not the same thing as being published by a separate entity such as a newspaper, in my opinion.  *You* have control over what *you* publish.  OTOH, you do *not* have control over the source to whom you submitted material as to whether or not they publish it. 

    My question was does anyone else feel that self-publication is not the same thing as being published by someone else, and therefore, does not carry the same weight when citing accomplishment as for say, on a resume.

    I don’t think it’s the same at all. Anyone can publish anything online. In the print publishing world there is a lot more scrutiny of the work. I would say it doesn’t really count as much to have uploaded a story onto the internet. Usually if something is published in print it means it is good, or someone besides the writer thought it was good. That’s not usually the case with online publishing.

    Technically when you publish a hub it is "published". But I think there is a great accomplishment of submitting your work, getting an editor to approve it and have a publisher pay you an advance for a book or whatever it is ... that is the ultimate "You did it!".
