Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. The way she writes to describe her illness within the book could go either way; that she is sickly and her deserving penalty was that of a mental institution's care or that she wasn't in the least ill but everyone around her was and she was more so undeserving of their "care." It's a classic. Stocked full with beautiful descriptions and in-depth ideas of each and every character. One novel I will never get tired or rereading.
