Anybodys´ Son Will Do .

German soldier. Somebodys´son
German soldier. Somebodys´son

Do Our Great Leaders Care?

Anybodýs´son will do.,

Anybodys´brother,

Anybodý´s ´husband,

Choirboy or local thug,

No matter! Anybodys´son will do.

Put them in a uniform and send them far away,

Away from family and friends, to teach them the New Way.

The way of war for these young lads

Never mind their mothers.

Anyones´son will do, yours, mine and others.

American soldiers. Somebodys ´sons
American soldiers. Somebodys ´sons

Broken arms and legs will come, Missing hands and feet,

Beautiful eyes no longer can see, Ears don´t cause the tapping of feet.

Music that was so loved before, no longer is heard, when you´re back from the war.

Anyones´son will do.

Both sides are right and nobody is wrong,

So anyones´son will do.

Take off the uniform, what do you have?

The war is over, you should be happy not sad,

Not as easy as that, so sorry mum,

Not easy when your friends´shot wit a gun and all you can do..

Is turn and run. All you can do is run with your gun .

Hoping that you´ll be the one to shoot first.......When really...

You don´t want to shoot at all, at a young lad like yourself,

Just somebody´son.......

Tell me please, How old does this ´´Soldier´´ look?

A very heart wrenching piece. The rich don't fight wars, they bebefit from them as do the politicians.

This was a moving and raw piece of sorrow and a baron of truths exposing selfishness among the high hierarchy.

Dear Dim Flaxenwick,

This is so heart-wrenching. Your poem is a masterpiece to me and should be had in every home. The title says it all, and the feelings in your verses have capture my heart and soul. This was a beautiful read although so sad to look at that reality. Thank you.

Dear Clairepeek.,

That was indeed a beautiful comment. Thank you.

l worried about it being too short, l worried about offending serving soldiers and their families, but in the end l just had to write what l felt.

Dear Dim,

It is the perfect length and I do not see how it would offend serving soldiers to care about their lives and how their families are dealing with their profession. I do not believe that you need to worry :) This is what this poem shows: how you care and how ultimately we all ought to care about life.

Very wonderfully said dear Dim.

As a Veteran of Vietnam and having been maligned by some of the scum of the world posing as patriots - this hits the nail on the head.

Any son will do.

It's the bottom line. Christians need to get out of the neoCONjobPEW.

I do not pledge allegiance to this corporate flag.

I will not bow down to the corporate swag.

The corporate world is DEBT and REGRET,

AND all VETERANS~ they soon forget.

It's plastic patriotism with a bumper sticker.

As the neoCons play eugenics and genocide with a snicker.

God - again needs a sacrifice? Just sit on a pew.

No benevolent God says, "ANY SON WILL DO!"

What a powerful poem that really pulls on the heartsrings. The picture of that boy is haunting as he looks like a baby. Beautiful writing. Pushed lots of buttons here.

Thank you , Minnetonka Twin.

The ´baby face´captivated me too. It made me think of the number of young boys in 1914 , who lied about their age to get IN to battle..

Take care.

...good to see Micky Dee here and with respect to his service in the war - because this is a very strong, bold and courageous ant-war statement - and my dad who was a veteran for 6 years in World War II as a Canadian soldier would have loved this (he was a writer too) so I must pay complete tribute to you my friend with a most revered posting of this classic to my FACEBOOK page with a direct link back here.

The BigWigs sitting on their thrones using young boys as pawns on a chess board "I'll move these three thousand in exchange for your 10,000"...GAG where are the mighty kings that used to lead their men? Not in this age....anyway...ya got me goin...LOL Love it!

So very sad. Just like the Bible says: "Brother against Brother."

The Civil War is a perfect example of this. This time it wasn't German or British, it was Yankee and Southerner.

"Brother against Brother." Just like Iran and Iraq.

HOW REALLY DIFFERENT ARE THEY BIOLOGICALLY? They are all Semites. There was the Iran/Iraq war in the 80's.

Perfect example is the American civil war, as you say.. Thank you for reading and commenting.

As you know from reading about my brother Jim during the Vietnam war...most all of the soldiers...no matter which war or whatever cause are often young and idealistic as your photos in this hub show. Too bad that we people on earth cannot learn to live in peace. Will it ever happen? It would be wonderful but unlikely from looking at what is currently going on around the world. Sad!

It amazes me how BOTH upper crusted parents of the two parties - right and left - will educate their children of the horrors of war and the horrors of the lack of education. Therefore both parties sacrifice the poor - generally boys - to war. These "parties" know what they're doing as they vote for and against abortion. But the religilusters never protest at a highschool for the murder and maiming of our children graduating from the education or non-education mill.

You have completely said what so many hundreds of thousands of family members (or millions) of troops feel so deeply. It is such a shame to waste the lives of our young for the ideals of the few. During Vietnam there was a saying: "What if they threw a war and nobody came"? Wouldn't that be wonderful? If peace really did stand a chance...

Thank you for expressing these feelings so well!

Dim Flaxenwick profile image

Dim Flaxenwick 3 years ago from Great Britain Author

Thank you for such a great comment, RunAbstract.

I well remember that saying during the time of the Vietnam War.

Even though we are British , my friends and l at that time had serious empathy for the young men being called up. They were our age and it seemed unreal. We also used to say "Start the war without me......."
