Anyone else doing the NaNoWriMo this year? I've been meaning to but I keep having babies in November. This year, I'm in!

I'm signed up.  There are at least a couple of others doing it - there was a thread a few weeks back I believe.

      Good luck!

I'm doing it! I'm only managing the basic minimum daily requirement, but I'm doing it. I post the chapters as hubs each day.

The big question is, can I get it published?

So far I'm actually a little ahead of the game, so if I stick to actual 50,000 words I'll be done on the 27th.

I'm giving it a go...this is my third year. I haven't been too successful...but the site has lots to offer and I am getting better. This year I researched and have an outline in mind...the other years it was seat of the pants writing! It is a great help in writing and leaving writer's block behind plus great resources if you check the forums.

I urge others to give it a go... Looking forward to seeing fellow Hubbers this November...Good Luck!

Well...think I am tapped out and lost steam at 22nd day. However lots of research I can use and I enjoyed the process and learning what not to do next time! Good luck to the ones nearing the finish line. Ciao!

Sorry, but glad you got some stuff you can use.  I am still behind.  I actually got quite a bit done one day at the library only to have my computer freeze up and lost a couple thousand words.  That was a GREAT moment!  I'm furiously trying to catch up, but am somewhat disheartened at the mountain I still have to climb.  How's everyone else doing?

Mine's going OK.  Over 40,000 words done, story has changed direction at least once, a couple of characters have been dropped and there will be about a year's worth of editing to do.  Oh, and I need to write a couple of hubs before the end of the month.

Wow - you are my hero!  I can't even think about writing hubs right now.  And I am praying to be at 40K by the end of today or tomorrow, but am not holding my breath! wink
            Good job!

Thanks - don't feel very heroic, just achy smile

Keep going, I'm sure you'll make 40K this weekend.  Then it's only (only!!!) 10K to go.

Congrats LABrashear and Judi Bee...I am impressed. I think 10K left to go is fantastic. You both will be wearing the laurels of winners!

I am looking at how to structure better for next year and working on what I have done so far but at a much slower pace. I am still hoping to eventually finish the first draft. However mine needs to be put away for awhile so I can look at it with fresh eyes and decide if I want to change the plot with one of my other characters taking the lead...lol Maybe after the rest I will keep the original but I will have to re-read what I have written first! Right now I am overly critical smile

This is my sixth year. I've made all but one year. I skipped last year because I couldn't come up with any fiction ideas to write.

I'm doing it for the first time. smile

    My handle there is ESPeck.

So far, I'm having a blast. Pamela, I've added you as a writing buddy, is that ok? I'd love to see more fellow hubber/NaNoWriMos if they're out there.

I've been lucky - I work in a school and last week was half-term in this part of the UK, so I had time to write.  It's going to slow down now we're back at school.

            Nice!

I'm a freelancer in addition to a hubber, and run a small online shop, so I haven't been able to give as much attention to the story as I'd like, but I'm feeling pretty good about the progress I've been making. smile

I was one on the other thread.  I'm doing this.  I'm Mikesplum on there.  I think I added you all as buddies.

I guess I should add that this is my first official participation year - adding word counts on the site and such.  I have participated on my own two years before that.  The first year, I completed my first novel.  Last year, I did not finish.
I have been keeping up with my word goals, but not consistently.  I will fall behind a day or two and then have a blast of writing and get ahead.  I think I'm right on track right now.  Off to add more.  Good luck everyone!!

        Yay! I've added you back.

The election really threw me, but I've managed to catch up, too. smile I think that's a pretty normal cycle, to be honest.

How are all you NaNos doing?  I'm finally up to par (and even a little above) and damn... it feels good.  I've really been enjoying the process.  How goes it for you guys?  I'm the same name there as here if you're looking for buddies.

    1. Judi Bee profile image91
Judi Beeposted 11 years agoin reply to this

It's going pretty well thanks.  When I say "pretty well" I mean that so far I've kept up with the word count.  Whether the story's any good is another question.

Feeling pretty tired today, not sure how much I'll get done.

      1. wordscribe43 profile image90
wordscribe43posted 11 years agoin reply to this

I know what you mean about wondering whether or not the story is any good.  I go through phases where I love what I'm writing, then worry it's just one big mess that I won't be able to piece together in any coherent fashion in the end.  But, I keep plugging away.

  8. LABrashear profile image59
    LABrashearposted 11 years ago

I'm about a day or day and a half behind.  I plan to get caught up today.  Like I said before, I tend to get ahead, then behind, then ahead...stressful cycle, but I am going to try to get - and stay - ahead today! smile  Glad you're doing well.  I think I sent you a buddy request...but can't remember.

    1. wordscribe43 profile image90
wordscribe43posted 11 years agoin reply to this

Yes, we're buddies on there.  I think it's normal to go through cycles of being ahead, then behind. It's tough to get enough writing in to build any kind of safe buffer... I am hoping to make progress in that regard today.  But, the kids are home for Veteran's Day, so any number of distractions could lead me astray.  Congrats on the progress, though...

We homeschool, so...I was reading a writer's magazine yesterday and one article in particular said to schedule your writing time just like any other appointment.  I am going to start doing that.
I have the kids doing the young writers program - thinking that would help me work faster - but they are not super motivated. smile

I've added you as a buddy, wordscribe. smile

So far, I'm doing pretty well. I tend to do most of my work on that story late at night, so last night, I was a little bit ahead. If my plans for the day stay on course, I'll be getting ahead again today. I'm having a great time with this.

I added you back!  I do a lot of late night work also- one of the only times it's actually quiet in this zoo of a house I inhabit.  Glad to hear it's going well and you're having fun!

Thank you! smile Since I freelance and run my little craft business on the side, I tend to do that during the day to earn some sort of short term income, so nighttime is all about writing for pleasure. wink Odd how that happens.

Thanks!  It's going to be a while before the product's finished!  I may have to get technical and do one of those spreadsheets to keep track of story lines - I was confusing myself by the end!

  11. wordscribe43 profile image90
    wordscribe43posted 11 years ago

Congrats, Judi Bee and anyone else who's crossed the finish line.  I'm just a pinch over 40K and have every intention of finishing on time.  Having the kids home for a week made it a lot harder than I'd anticipated...  AND my story continually evolves and just takes on unexpected turns.  Boy am I going to have a lot of editing to do.  But, NaNo provided just the push and motivation I needed, so I'm grateful.  Without it, I wouldn't be this close to completion.  See y'all at the finish line!

    1. LABrashear profile image59

I'm not near as far as I hoped to be, so it's going to be a marathon week for me.  Good luck - see you at the finish!

I am so glad I participated in Nanowrimo.  As you say, it was the push I needed to get it done.  Usually I start and give up when a problem in the story arises.  This time I've just ploughed through it, and will hopefully fix it later.

      Cheering you all!

  12. wordscribe43 profile image90
    wordscribe43posted 11 years ago

YAY!  It's done, validated and I'm feeling great!  I know I wouldn't have gotten it written were it not for NaNoWriMo, so I'm completely grateful.  I have a lot of editing to do, but I'm ready and excited to sink my teeth into that.  There are some scenes I've been chomping at the bit to edit.

Anyway, congrats to everyone.  We did well, hubbers!
