A November Challenge: Write a haiku.
(A Japenese lyric verse form having three unrhymed lines of five, seven and five syllables, traditionally invoking an aspect of nature or the seasons.)
Though it doesn't have to be about nature or the seasons--any poem that follows this form is a haiku.
And send it in to the "Discovery"/ Boston Review 2010 poetry contest.
Deadline: January 15, 2010
“Discovery” / Boston Review 2010 Poetry Contest
Deadline: January 15, 2010
Judges: Susan Howe, Nick Flynn and Claudia Rankine
Four Prizes: $500
I'll start, even though I'm no great shakes as a poet, certainly. I have two of our poets in mind that will just blow me out of the water should they choose to participate!
The golden tree stands
Tall outside my window pane
Weeping leaves for fall
Thanks for the info ! It's only for Americans ? Or, can I participate ?
Go ahead and participate. It didn't seem to be restricted except it's for people who haven't had their poetry published before.
The Boston Review is a VERY reputable publication. I know there's no gimmicks and this ISN'T any sort of scam!
Thanks for this information Paradise.
I don't think I'll get near to qualifying but I'm going to give it a try!
I like it paradise. I have one poem published, so I can't enter??
if you have a published book or chapbook, you cannot enter.
it's nice to read the winning poems to see what they like.
been published too, we could try something like this:
I break rules often
Can I enter your contest
If I lie a bit.
might win em over.
