The Heroes Fall to the Wind

As the wind tears a desolate mind,

Once more we are bound thick to shadows of doubt.

Too long they have waited, forced behind the clouds.

Best laid plans of mice and martyrs,

Dying for those whose words they mocked and scorned.

Like grains of sand their intuitions blow,

Where once upon the grass they could be caught,

They cling, no hope, to bare, burnt out ground.

    Where once there lay salvation,

The laughs of those they swore to protect keep them down.

The dragon’s roar, it stirred the heroes.

The little men who fought for good, for you and I.

    And once towards the beast they charged, so selflessly;

We stabbed them in the back,

The cold words we spoke flew like daggers, cutting through.

Now nakedly we cower and hide,

Amongst the burning cities that we built.

No longer protected we are weak, the line was crossed.

And we pray that they may live again,

Those little heroes that we slaughtered with our words.
