Humor? Spy? Historical? Philosophical? Detective? Mysteries?
Personally I love to be told a story. I don't mean like any story - I mean a proper swashbuckling adventure set in either historical or fantasy settings. I love stories that are set in our world but with a twist of unreality. I loved reading the Norse Anthologies for example, they echo of the fireside on a winters night. A story should move you or touch you on some emotional level as well; it's not enough to just be plot thick it has to have uber characters. But mostly it's important to remember that telling tales is how we amuse, entertain and preserve the history of our culture...
Anything that makes me think! Though at times (like now) something really simple like the True Blood series is all I have the brain power for.
