He wanted for an answer to his question (what is the question?)

Creative writers: What question did he ask her?

Sorry--He waited for an answer--not he wanted.

I like he wanted for an answer, he desired, the answer with great passion, he wanted to know what was in her heart, but she gave no hint in her words, no clue in her gaze, no intimation in her body language, no way for him to know, or to even conjecture and this kept him frozen like a deer in headlights. unable to move to resolution.

Yes, I like that----he wanted for an answer. Effective word usage.

Tears flowed as she choked out the answer.

    or
Laughter errupted as she giggled out the answer.

Or maybe there isn't an answer, Maybe the question is left to hang in the air to cure like sausage every drop of moisture coaxed from the casing until all that is left in the nuance and angles is yet another question.

Ok. In the story both the question and the answer is never revealed. How will the readers fill about this? I like this angle. This could be a short story--the plot is for the readers to try to figure out the question and the answer if there is one.

Well the answer can be different for each reader if they are deciding for themselves.

Readers do like closure, however, giving them enough to come to their own conclusions is the key.

Ah but with closure there can't be a sequel! wink
