It isn't a book about self improvement but I found it very inspiring.  The Snow Falcon by Stuart Harrison.  The characters in it are trying to rebuild their lives that have been torn by some truly horrible things.
A boy that has witnessed his father's death and now refuses to speak and the mother trying to make things work.
A man, just getting out of jail for a terrible mistake, and is trying to come to terms with his past.
It's how they all heal each other makes it so inspiring.

    A great book -
    Waiting for Jack
Confessions of a Self-Help Junkie: How to Stop Waiting & Start Living Your Life

one quote from the book explains it well:
"I was putting my life on hold instead of getting our there in the world and creating what I said I want to create."
