Look At Him

Look at him. He walks through the halls with his head up, hair worn to one side, and headphones blaring. He walks fast, dodging people left and right, barely being able to put up with their wandering. He walks with a purpose, knowing exactly where he needs to go. Or maybe he is the one doing the wandering. His head's up, but can he really see where he's going? Does he know how to get there? Or is he just trying to brush past life like it's a stranger at the mall? But like a stranger, life doesn't appreciate being jostled. It will catch up, place a hand on his shoulder, turn him around and punch him square in the mouth. Startled, he will recoil and check his split lip for blood. Without hesitation life will hit him again and again until he can finally understand that you can't brush past life and pay it no attention. Life is no stranger to those who pass by, and sometimes it will allow free passage. But him; he is something different. Life sees something...special in him. He deserves better. Life knows that he  works non-stop and gets nothing in return. Now that doesn't sound fair, but he is too humble to speak up. Life knows that he can't put up with people anymore. Life knows that he hates himself, and he thinks he's a worthless excuse for a human, and his girlfriend tries to convince him otherwise, but when people tell you something enough times, you start to believe it. He deserves better. But life can't make that change for him, he has to make it himself. All life can do is give him the chance, sit back and watch. But every time that chance comes, it is taken for granted. Hypocritical, yes. Life has faith in him that one day he will approach the opportunity in front of him, open his arms wide and absorb it like sunlight on a clear day. And one day, it will happen. When? No one knows. How?  No one knows. But there's nothing that can be done. All we can do is wait. All we can do...is look at him.

Welcome to Hubpages, Mr. Morton.  This creative work should be a hub instead of a forum post. Let me know when you publish your first hub.  I am looking forward to reading it.

Yes, I realize that. I posted from my iPod and things got a little mixed up. And thank you!
