Generations

Mom – I have this old photograph
where you smile out at me
frozen in time before
my birth
my conception
my idea
and in this old photograph

(of you of me of you)

I see my eyes –
set wider apart.
I see my nose –
just a little bigger.
I see my lips
curved in my laugh smile
in this old photograph

(of me of you of me)

I see the shadows
beneath our eyes
I see the head tilt
that we share
I see the jawline
of our faces
in this old photograph

(of you of me of you)

I see myself
before my birth
before my conception
before my idea
in our eyes, nose, laugh smile
and head tilt
captured in this old photograph

(of me of you of me)

This was very creative and I enjoyed the parenthetical lines very much. Thumbs up, deary. Very sweet and effective.

I liked this poem. It was quite moving and made me think.
