Inspirational Quotes for Difficult Times
When times get tough, inspirational quotes can provide a glimpse of hope. Sometimes they may give us ideas for solutions or even how we can be as we work through our current challenge.
Here are some of my favorite inspirational quotes for difficult times:
"In my darkest hours I had a choice to make. I could be a victim or a victor."
- Wynonna Judd on the Oprah show
"I discovered I always have choices, and sometimes it is only a choice of attitude. "
- Judith M. Knowlton
“We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms -- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.”
- Viktor Frankl in "Man's Search for Meaning"
In every situation we get to choose how we respond. That is so powerful! If we attach meaning to an event - such as it's good, bad, right, wrong or shouldn't have happened - it can cause us to feel stressed. Often we just need a shift in perspective in order to respond in a less stressful way.
"The universe is conspiring in our favor, always and in all ways. Despite circumstances and appearances or most importantly our perception of it."
- Neale Donald Walsch in "Conversations with God" movie
"Everything happens for me, not to me."
- Byron Katie in "Loving What Is"
"If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change."
- Wayne Dyer in "Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life"
Perception is key. Our filters affect how we respond to different situations. A person who sees with rose colored glasses will experience the world very diffently than a doom and gloom 'Eeyore' type of person. We can train ourselves to see the world with new filters.
"In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.”
- Albert Einstein
"Opportunity... often it comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat."
- Napoleon Hill in "Think and Grow Rich"
"Every hardship; every joy; every temptation is a challenge of the spirit; that the human soul may prove itself."
- Elias A. Ford
To find the opportunity, ask yourself: "What is great about this?" Then you brain can start searching for answers. The answers will be much more empowering than if you asked: "Why me?"
