Holding Hands

Holding Hands

We met a few times,
You smiled and laughed.
I thought things went fine,
Or have I gone daft?

You’re time isn’t free,
I gave you some space.
It’s so hard to be,
Away from your face.

A visual spike,
How people perceive.
And I feel just like,
A visceral Beast.

It’s a far contrast,
To your work of art.
When I’m always last,
I’ll steal the head start.

Your face is well formed,
Our humor is synched.
Your curves I adore,
And I haven’t blinked.

The sooner you see
I’ve nothing to hide,
The sooner you’ll be
Just right by my side.

I’ll open my arms
And wait for a while.
See innocent charm,
Followed with a smile.

I want to feel your
Soft hand inside mine.
Now please don’t ignore
The love that has shined.

Sometimes I like to add little explanations to my poetry. This one has one I feel like sharing. When I started this poem several weeks ago, I actually had someone in mind and was making it a bit more specific, but things kind of changed and I decided not to quite go that route. I revised and completed it without anyone in mind. I altered it more to take on the idea of longing for someone who you weren't sure was into you or not, and capturing that hope along with the uncertainty if they will like you back; and just wanting to get to that first dating step -- which in this case is the title. I think most people can relate!

I love this poem and the explanation gives new depth. I too have friends that I haven't seen for a long time. The picture of the two children intensifies the poem's innocence and sense of longing. Please read some of my writings as well. :)
