Memories of Love

It had been too long

Too long since she had gone

To him she was now

But a dear and sweet memory

A summer love

That had come and gone

A summer love

That had never returned another summer

It was surprising that he still remembered

Everything about her

Looked to find something of her

In every woman he met

But they all paled by comparison

And so he drifted alone

Alone and dreaming of the woman

With the auburn hair and flashing green eyes

Upon a rainy autumn day

While their favorite music played

She seemed to be everywhere

Capturing his mind and soul

It was then that as he sat in the attic

Looking for souvenirs she’d left behind

He found the last letter

That she had given him

And as he opened the envelope

It seemed she spoke to him

Of days of flowery meadows

And walks on slippery rocks

In the country streams

Of dances beneath tall pine trees

And campfire nights

Counting the stars above

How she loved talking to the moon

Telling him wild tales

Of things she fantasized about

Picnics along river banks

Taking it slow and easy

The time they climbed

To the hill top

Tumbling down along the grasses

Just like Jack and Jill

How she loved jumping among the waves

Down by the sea

Running along the sand

Until breathless they fell

Laughing until they cried

It was the summer

That she filled his life

It was the summer

That changed him

He knew she couldn’t stay

At least that was what she said

She was a sunbeam

That shone here and there

Then just flittered away

Like a butterfly

That comes one day

With delightful colors

Dancing about

Then just flying away

Far into the clear blue sky

He came down to earth

And looked out upon the rain

The leaves were blowing about

And the red ones

Reminded him of her hair

The day the balloons came

Was a true winter’s day

The snowflakes blew about

Covering the ground in a blanket of white

He opened the door

To a dozen colorful balloons

The note simply said

Miss those colorful days with you

Know that I truly care

Coming home

To take it easy with you

He was ecstatic and delighted

Before the week was out

Another note told him

To meet her by the sea

It made him laugh

Only she would think of that

The seashore in the wintertime

And he flew on the wings of love

There she was a bundled up

Her red hair blowing in the wind

The sea churning with angry winter waves

Running to meet him

As they danced for joy

Along the seashore

Thanks for your generosity : you find them, you meet them, you know them then you share them making imagination of your readers a reality. How sweet a continuance of something which never ceased to exists especially when that something is called love.

Voted beautiful.
