MEMORIES LINGER WITHIN A MIST

Most of my poems rhyme, I'm not sure why. I guess it is because I grew up with the sing song rhythm of rhyming verses, and I get a certain satisfaction from the challenge of trying to find words that work in a verse as well as rhyme.

I would never call myself a poet, but as with "poets" my poetic renderings are born from life's up and downs...joys and sorrows...from the depths of the heart and the heights of the soul. This is one born from a place of uncertainty and despair...a wounded soul...once upon a time.

But even when the soul grows weary and speaks it's despair, the heart whispers it's hope and reminds that every cloud has a silver lining. Faith is always rewarded if one will only wait.

Eons have passed and I am here yet,

Why this is i cannot say.

Memories linger within a mist,

It must have been another day.

This world is strange and unfamiliar.

I am alone and lost in time.

I am not myself but a stranger,

Searching for the reason I'm

Dwelling within an earthen mold, crying

unshed tears for things unknown.

Struggling, stumbling without direction

While waiting...waiting to be grown.

My soul feels full enough to burst.

The ache within never leaves.

Yet each day there is a thirst,

unfulfilled I grieve.

A smile is offered to be taken.

A lie awaits the breath.

This life is but a shadow.

The only truth is death.

Eons have passed and I am here yet.

Why this is I cannot say.

Memories linger within a mist,

It must have been another day.

Hi Ana, Yes i only write rhyming poetry, so far. There is a certain skill in marrying the rhyme with the rhythm. A skill that this poem suggests you possess. Cheers from sunny Australia.

Thank you for your kind words. I say we just keep on rhyming...start a club...call ourselves The Rhymers...

Just kidding.

I will gladly accept your cheers from sunny Australia, because it is raining in Louisiana...again.

Hey Ana, I liked this very much--especially rhyming I'm with time and "A smile is offered to be taken. A lie awaits the breath." The photo is awesome as well. =:)

Thank you as always Winsome. Poetry is a strange land for me, but something I have tinkered with through the years. Sometimes they just happen...as though the words are already there waiting for pen and paper to materialze.

I agree with you. The left brain has to formulate, but the right, our poetic side, like a child, stacks our feelings and intuitions and our musings up like colored blocks as it fancies and we only have to write it out. =:)
