Poem - Dear Brothers & Sisters in the Universe

I had a dream I heard radio waves

a message looping over and over,

it was just an echo of us;-

“We’re nice people here, really,

is anyone there ?

we don’t kill as many any more

and torture is almost eradicated

of course there is a big divide in society

but the idiots will eventually breed out.

We love animals, to eat them

keep them in cages and pens

feed them plenty of chemicals

make them look fat.

We have a very quaint political system

there are even gender imbalances in it, still.

The career politicians are expert liars, cheats, thieves,

they know very little about governing.

War has become mechanised & industrialised,

yet remains inefficient, we’re working on that..

a few of us believe there must be peace and justice somewhere

environmentally we’re in a mess,

we need some help to move.

Your friends on Earth”

.

Voted up - this is a wonderful poem about the times we live in - scary eh? I do think though, that torture isn't 'nearly eradicated'. I wish it was. Oh, how I wish it was...

@sheilanewton... I could have sworn I replied to this a couple of weeks ago... ah well... thanks for the nice words Sheila, I was being facetious when I talked about torture being eradicated since to a large extent it is worse than ever... :-(

...wow, or hubwow, my dear poetic brother in arms, this is quite a poetic manifesto, and I can see how we must think alike - thank goodness the internet brings everyone in this world a lot closer together to let us see that we are all much alike and have similar needs, wants and desires - love your writing here - because it makes me think and ponder and wonder - and that's what great writing should do - lake erie time ontario canada 1:29pm and sending you warm wishes from a nice summer afternoon by the lake

Thanks very much for the lovely comment Epi, you are so right, the Net has created this ability to bring people of like mind together. I think that so many people for so long have remained on the sideline and now it is time to reassert a belief in each other and in some way try to remove the cheats liars and thieves from center stage. This may well be the role of poetry in that it can get under the skin (and the Govt radar) :-)

From our primitive nature as carnivores to warriors, you have captured our nature in its essence and sought to apologize to the ET's. From politics to the environment, we are oblivious and unable to change because our systems are in place to preserve the status quo. Excellent write.

Who indeed would want to answer our call? If I were them, I would be afraid that I might taste good!
