Have you ever heard the rain start - A Poem

Do you enjoy thunderstorms?

I love storms of all kinds. I love the pit-pat of the rain on my windows and the way the room shakes when thunder rolls through. But my ultimate favorite time of a storm is the very beginning.

And I don't mean a sprinkle that turns into a drizzle and then a steady rain and so on. I'm talking about that ozone smell right before it starts pouring. I'm talking about the electricity in the air that only seems to energize itself with the downpour.

Clouds right before the downpour.
Clouds right before the downpour.

I'm always excited when I time it perfectly and just get onto the porch as the clouds first open up.

A poem about my love for storms:

Have you ever heard the rain start

Have you ever heard the rain start,
seen the clouds part,
smelt the ozone split into two.

Electrons sizzle on the skin
when you let the sun
hide from you.

→ And FLASH!

seconds pass
but there’s no crack.

A rumble sounds,
three shared growls,
and the clouds clash and rip.

Listen to that thunder! I was beyond happy to catch this on video.

I love a good storm. A lot of times I'll go outside and watch it roll in :) It actually hasn't stormed where I'm at for awhile and I'm anxious for another good one.

I get very excited when it's about to storm.

I absolutely love rain in all forms. A simple shower to a huge thunder storm. Something about it just relaxes me and makes me want to curl up with a good book and watch it.

Storms of all kinds fascinate me! There is nothing more calming than a great thunderstorm, and nothing more peaceful than a beautiful snowstorm-although the aftermath is less than exquisite! Beautiful hub! I look forward to following your hubs! :D

Ooooo like minds in more than Potter! =) Thanks so much for reading. Snowstorms have their own awe-inspiring beauty, don't they? I'll have plenty to say about snow (and the cold. UGH! XD) as it draws closer to winter, haha, and not all good! But I can never deny the beauty. Thanks again for the comment. =)

Meisjunk....I LOVE this one! I am so excited and thrilled with the storms of SE Kansas...where I lived for 4.5 years...still there most of the time. I can't believe how cool and exciting the thunder and lightning is! It comes right over the farm/animal sanctuary out in the country..we're just about 80 miles due N. of Tulsa, Ok. The storms are INCREDIBLE. From Calif. I'd never seen such active and violent weather "as a rule" rather than a rare rare exception. I know, when I finally complete the move back to Ca., I'm going to miss the storms big time! Great hub and LOVE the thunder video..have to keep this for future use. All UPS!!

@Lucky Cats: It's cool to see we have so much in common! =) Too bad Cali doesn't see such awesome storms. Take videos for when you feel homesick for SE Kansas! XD

Yes, storms have primeval energy that resonates within. The world becomes feeling and we are closer to unknowing ourselves at these times. Excitingly dangerous!

I respect your poetry. Perhaps the flash, flash could be something different? Not a criticism as I believe most poems are never truly 'finished'. I read your poem on movement and loved it.

Ha, no I struggled with that word on and on and then finally had to walk away. xD I forget who actually said it, but the rest of the quote was, "Poems are never truly finished. Only abandoned."

Thanks for your comment! =) And thanks for reading and respecting. ^_^
