The Shoreline of Life........

All be it impossible to enter the surf on
the shores of coral
And yes I've tried
And entering life as a child
from the sharpened edges of
a raising
No
it would never be my style
to just jump in
And yet .....jump I did
Though the currents too strong
and being swept away
by the ripping tides
is the cost

No.......I still cannot swim there
though envying the others I do
And the dappled light of laughter in
the waves always intrigues me
as with the smile of
a real woman
looking away
Or the remembered sounds of
a certain child

May the echoes of your laughter your squeals
go on forever
And of now.......I go to the sea ....
only to
observe the interactions
of water and
memory
and you
And I found a treasure there once
but only when you were
there delicately testing the
cool water
by dipping your toes
at the edge of the
shore where the water
touches the sand
and smiles
And I smiled too

ahorseback,

I really loved this one. It reminded me of a visit to Emerald Isle, to visit my God-parents who lived in Jacksonville, NC. My God-father was stationed at Camp LeJeune, where my dad was also stationed for a good while.

Before Daddy walked my little sister and I over the dunes, he said that before we were born, he'd brought our great-grandfather, a Hoosier, to the same beach, for him to see the ocean for the first time. And, when he first laid eyes on it, he'd cried because he was so moved at the sight.

When we crested the last dune and I saw that big stretch of water farther than my mind could reach ... I understood how my great-grandfather felt.

It was one of those miracle-moments that I've never forgotten, standing there in the sand, with my hand in my dad's and trying to comprehend the majesty of it all.

Thank you ....

femme

I could picture being there. Terrific poem! I loved it! Unfortunately, I have a fear of the ocean. There is something about swimming with things bigger than me that freaks me out.

Just beautiful.

"to observe the interactions

of water and

memory

and you"

Yes, flowing water does that, whether river or the to-ing and fro-ing ocean - flowing water does that.

I love your words, they take me places. Thank you Ahorseback.

Your poem is like a great painting. Each time I read it I find something more beautiful. How you love your daughter. And how blessed she is for that love. '

The ocean is extremely significant to me as my son's ashes were gently floating there 4 yrs ago. Thank you.

Vocalcoach , Then this poem is for you and your dad and as well for your son! I am sorry for the losing of your son , a totally unimaginable loss. And yet, the inner strengths and sharing ways you show in your hubs is so amazing! Bless you for that......:-}

Very very beautiful ahorseback;the love you have for your daughter is so true and to be tenderly cherished.

These words show quite clearly the spirit of the writer.

We tell so much through our writing much more than through speech.

I have to vote up;take care and enjoy your day my friend

Eddy.

Eiddwen , As I keep you and your beautiful daughters story in mind , I can only brag about my daughter humbly. It is her that is the angel , and suffers a ditzy Father like me! And thank you for sharing, being a pretty private person ,I can neglect the duties of a Fathers communication shortages ! I am only extremely lucky in her love for me ! She is a registered nurse and a great one at that as well as being my angel!......:-}
