9 Ways To Add Extra Room To Your Home

If you are running out of space in your home but do not want to move because you love the house that you are in and you love the area that you live in, then you will need to find alternative ways to increase the number of rooms you currently have.

There are several things that you can choose to do and they all have their good points and bad points as well as additional added costs.

The good news is that any work that you choose to have done on your home in order to increase the number of rooms will most definitely increase the value of your property in the long term.

9 Ways To Add Space

Convert The Loft

If you have a loft and there is enough head space you could consider converting the space into an extra bedroom with an en suite bathroom. This could be the perfect hide out for you if you are a parent and need a little space to escape from your brood.

Convert The Cellar

A lot of people are opting to clear out their cellars of all its junk and to make this into a family room for children to invite their friends to. You could decide to use the space to create a studio apartment if you have the necessary depth and access to a natural light source. This could be perfect for visiting relatives and guests or even a way to earn a little extra cash.

Add An En Suite

If you are in need of a third bathroom you may be able to squeeze an extra bathroom or shower room into your existing bedroom. Only do this if the room is adequately sized so that it doesn’t end up looking cramped and crowded.

Divide A Room

If you have a large room you could always consider splitting it in half.  This would be a great idea for a family whose children are getting older and are craving their own personal space.

Add An Extension

If you have enough external space, think about getting plans drawn up to add to the side or the back of your property.  This room could become a dinning room or an extra bedroom.

Add A Conservatory

An additional room to the back of your house might be the right thing for you. The glass enclosure will let in lots of light.

Build A Room In The Garden

If you have a big garden, think about purchasing a custom built shed.  You could use this as your home office so that you can free up the room you are currently using in the house.  Good quality sheds come with electrical points built in that just need to be hooked up to your electrical source (by a qualified electrician).  The more expensive sheds can also house space for a small bathroom and kitchenette area.

Convert Your Garage

Some people never park their cars in the garage and the space ends up being used for storage space. It is time to declutter and convert this area into a functioning room.

Build A Room Above The Garage

If you can, you should try to convert the dead space above your garage into a new room. You will have to see if you can get planning permission to build an addition to your property.

That garden room looks great! I haven't got my own house yet but that garden room will be my inspiration! Just have to work harder to achieve my goal!

Nice tips!

All great ideas - unless, like us, you live in a flat with no attic, no cellar, no garden, no garage, and no room to extend (-:
