A Japanese Gardens Tribute to Nature

Spring Time
Spring Time

Tucked away in the heart of Rockford, IL is an amazing treasure. Tranquil garden paths take you past a blend of Japanese maples, cloud pines and rhododendrons. In the spring it's magical with so many trees and flowers in bloom. It's quiet and relaxing to sit on the suspended deck just above the large pond that is home to many large Koi.

Walking bridges take you over streams and brooks flowing along at a gentle pace with azaleas, and magnolias lining the banks. There is a beautiful waterfall with seating nearby so you can pause to reflect, journal, or just soak in the vibes of nature surrounding you. When you are finished walking the paths check out the gift shop and have a bite to eat in the restaurant over looking the pond you just explored.

I've taken friends and my three year old grandson to the gardens during different seasons and have seen how amazing nature adapts and changes. Who doesn't need a break from work, stress, traffic, and gas prices. Make time to take a break from it all and surround yourself in nature. Your mind and body will thank you.

Colorful Koi

Koi are found in three different ponds at Anderson Garden. They are not shy and are just waiting to be fed the pellets the garden staff sells for a dollar a bag. It was fun to feed them because they came right up to the edge of the pond to be fed.

The Japanese name for Koi is Nishikigoi. You can tell Koi varieties apart by looking at their different colors, patterns, and scales. We saw a wide selection of Koi white, black and orange, white and orange and blue and orange.

graymarye I see it was 13 days ago when you wrote your positive note to me. I am still learning how hub pages works, hence the delay in my reply. I do hope you've found a peaceful place to relax and reflect since then.

Beautiful gardens. I love public gardens and like to visit them in spring to get some ideas and inspiration.

Anderson Garden is my favorite garden in this area. Glad you liked it. I love going to the local garden centers this time of year too. They are full colorful flowers and plants with interesting textures. I spent over an hour just walking through one this past week. You can't help but feel good when your surrounded by all that beauty.

This is one of the greatest treasures of the Midwest. Wonderful gardens. I hope the restaurant returns.

I agree GmaGoldie this garden is a wonderful place to visit. I would like to see the restaurant return as well. Just another reason to spend more time looking over the gardens and pond.
