Ask DJ Lyons: Home Office Renovations Day 10

My home office is being re-done

I am thrilled to say that on Valentine's Day, 2011, the basic flooring has been completely installed. We still have the laminant to add after we get the room repainted; however, I am thrilled to walk on a very sturdy floor that has no chance, any longer, to bow toward the center.

If this is the first hub on this subject you've seen, I will give you a brief overview.

This log cabin was built more than 20 years ago. It was not built to spec. The little room that doubles as my office and dressing room bowed toward the center. My computer desk chair would roll down the mini hill. The tower fan would sometimes fall over. There were other challenges to the room described in links down below. It was my least favorite room in the house.

Once this room gets done, it is probably going to become my favorite room in the house. My husband jokes that he may never get me out of it again, once it gets done. He may be right. LOL!

Today, Tommy and Dal finished laying the floor. They filled in cracks between boards with a product called Great Stuff,Gaps & Cracks. It is an insulating foam sealant. The can states "Expands to fill, seal & insulate, For gaps up to 1 inch, Reduces drafts." They will come back in a day or two after it is completely dry to scrape off the excess solution.

Our next step is to get the chinks filled in between some of the logs. Then we will paint the entire room with that chinking paint or some compatible stain. After that, Tommy and Dal will return to lay the Rosewood Laminant that has the look of Hardwood Floors. The final step will be to move the furniture, clothes, and office materials, etc. back into that room.

At some point soon, we will also get the windows redone. You will see from some of the pictures down below that they do not currently look very pretty. I am so excited about all of this, as you can probably imagine.

Check out the latest pictures below.

3 Windows in need of being replaced

Can you see why we want to get the windows replaced? This is the window on the left side of the room. You can see part of our back deck. You can also see the house behind us where the two dogs live who enjoy eating our leftovers.

That spray foam is pretty amazing we used it around our water heating pipes - covers large gaps nicely and so easy to use.

Billy, you are right. That spray foam worked great. I learned so much during this home renovation project. Best wishes to you,

Debbie
