Ask DJ Lyons: Home Office Renovations Day 8

My home office is being re-done

My home office is being re-done and I am so excited. On Friday, February 11, 2011, the floor joists got laid down. This is quite a contrast to the former situation of the floor bowing in the center.

In case this is the first hub of mine you have visited about the reconstruction job getting done, here is a brief overview. I live in a log cabin out in the country. The little room I use as my office and dressing room had a bad case of the tilts. In other words, the whole room bowed to the center. When I would sit down in the rolling computer chair in front of my computer desk, I would roll down a hill. I would have to use my arms and legs to roll myself back up the little hill to be sitting front and center in front of that computer desk. When I placed a tower fan in that room, it would sometimes fall over due to this tilt. The room had other challenges as well. You can check out the links below if you are curious. Plus, that way, you can see the day-by-day construction pictures.

My husband and I had assumed the room bowed due to shifting ground underneath the log cabin. Instead, it turns out that there were only a few thin logs holding up this floor and some of them were broken through. In other words, I could have walked into this room one day and fallen through the floor. Phew!

In contrast, check out today's pictures. Look at those very sturdy looking floor joists. There is no way this room is going to tilt or bow now. Woo-hoo!
