The Best Futon Mattress: 8" Innerspring

Why we bought a Futon:

My three year old son needed a bed for his new room. We searched many options and found a twin-over-futon bunk bed that was a great value. I loved the idea of being able to read stories to my kids from the bottom bunk. Also, during the day the futon would adjust to an upright position to serve as a couch for space saving; aka more play area for my kids.

My only concern about the purchase was regarding the actual futon mattress. From experience, I've slept on a 6" futon and both my husband and I felt the metal bars of the bunk bed under our backs throughout the night. We got up the next morning with aching backs. I'm writing this review about the BEST futon mattress that you can buy for an ADULT to sleep comfortably; the 8" Independently-Encased Coil Premium Full Futon Mattress.

Research...

If you've read any of my other hubs, you know that I am a stickler for research and detail. Whenever I buy a product, especially one for long term use, I find out the BEST option with the most VALUE. In doing my research on the full size futon, I found a website called SLEEP LIKE THE DEAD. It's an appropriate name, right? That's EXACTLY what I'm looking for; a great night's sleep without waking up with back problems. The website offered 1534 actual owner opinions on futon mattresses reviews & comparison (Sleep Like the Dead, 2014). This is where I found the highest rated futon mattress on the market: the 8" Independently-Encased Coil Premium Full Futon Mattress.

Futon Mattress Thickness

Futon thickness is the biggest contributor to comfort for adults. In fact, according to SLEEP LIKE THE DEAD, "owner satisfaction tends to increase as futon mattress thickness increases" (Sleep Like the Dead, 2014). This is exactly proof of why we felt the metal bars under our backs when sleeping on a 6" futon, as opposed to an 8" futon. Even though thicker models tend to be more expensive, by around $50, this extra expense is SO WORTH IT for a better night's sleep. Thickness was one main reason that we purchased the 8" Independently- Encased Coil Premium Full Futon Mattress.

Type of Futon Mattress

In the chart above, you'll see that there are three different types of futon mattresses: cotton, foam / cotton, and innerspring. The cotton futon mattress has the lowest customer satisfaction rating. This type is primarily stuffed with cotton. The foam / cotton futon mattresses are just that; stuffed with a combination of foam and cotton. Customer satisfaction increases slightly with this type of mattress. The highest customer rating lies with the innerspring futon mattress. These mattresses contain both foam, cotton, and springs for added support. For an adult, where it pertains to comfort level, buying the innerspring futon mattress, as opposed to the other two options, is a no-brainer. This is another reason why we opted to buy the 8" Independently- Encased Coil Premium Full Futon Mattress.

Premium Futon Color Choices: Black, Brown, & Tan

Just as a side note, the premium futon comes in the following color choices: black, brown, and tan. Choose a color that complements your home décor. If you are concerned about the lighter color, know that the cover is removable and washable. Also, the mattress cover is made from soft microfiber, which does not stain easily. This also means that it's easy to clean.
