Creative Closet Storage Ideas

Nearly everyone has encountered the problem of having a cluttered closet, usually because it doesn’t take much to clutter it in the first place. It is natural for people to try and protect their belongings by storing them in safe places, but of course as time passes these can easily become a jumbled mess if not properly organized. Below are a few quick tips and ideas to ensure that your closets and storage spaces don’t become a disorderly mess.

One of the first great tips to keep your closets, any kind of closet, organized is to arrange all the items that you own into categories. Choose which items you want to keep, donate, or to throw away. Even the items you choose to keep can be further organized to items you use often and those you use rarely. We all have clothes and other items we hardly ever use and can be given or thrown away. You’ll be surprised at how much clutter you can remove from doing this alone. That dress you bought 2 years ago and never wore, the old rollerblades that no longer fit, or the broken vacuum cleaner that costs more to repair rather than replace. All of these items can be considered clutter, and can be donated or recycled to free up precious space.

Once you have all your items categorized, it’s important to make sure they stay that way. Consider buying organizers like mini self storage boxes or small plastic bins so you can keep your items separate from one another. This is important because, as mentioned above, the items you choose to keep can be further classified to those you use often and those you use rarely. Seasonal clothes, holiday decorations, and sports equipment fall into the rarely used category and are usually bulky as well. Having them in storage containers will help keep them out of the way when they’re not needed and will also help protect them from dust and dirt.

With all of your items now organized and neatly inside mini self storage boxes and bins, it’s now time to put them away where they can be easily recovered when you do need them. Nothing can ruin a well organized closet as quickly as sloppy storage, so make sure you keep items you use regularly within easy reach. It’s also a good idea to label your bins so you won’t have to re-clutter your closets when you’re looking for a particular item.

Storage space can be quite precious, especially if you live in a small house or apartment, and keeping your items organized can help greatly in maximizing the space available. Recognizing the items you can get rid of and those you want to keep will lessen the demand for storage, and having them in labeled storage boxes will keep them from once again becoming a jumbled mess. As long as you follow these tips and keep things in order, cluttered closets may be the thing of the past.

Great ideas for organizing the closet. What would we do without plastic containers for items for organizing. Voted up.
