What should you use to Clean Mold
There are many different mold cleaning products that you can get at the store. However, if you are like me you might be sensitive to harsh chemicals. If this is you then I might have a solution.
The best part is you might already have what you need and these are very effective mold removal solutions.
DIY Mold Cleaning Safety Gear
It is extremely important to wear proper safety gear when doing mold removal yourself. This is for safety reasons and to help keep you from spreading it throughout the house!
Note:Please use and wear all the proper safety gear when cleaning mold.
- Respirator or 3m face mask
- Rubber Gloves
- Eye protection
- Coveralls if its a large area or if your dealing with toxic mold. This will help keep you from spreading the mold throughout the house.
Do It Yourself Mold Removal Products
These do it yourself mold removal products are simple to make and easy to use and in most cases a lot cheaper than buying strong chemicals.
How to use Borax for Mold Removal
Borax is great for black mold removal as well as white mold or any other kind of mold you might have in the house! Borax is toxic if swallowed however if you are using your proper safety gear you shouldn't have any problems at all. The good news is that it does not have any strong odors like you would get if you used bleach!
The first thing you will want to do is vacuum up and loose mold make sure the vacuum has a HEPA filter so you don't spread mold spores throughout the house.. Do not use a shop-vac unless it has a HEPA filter.
Mixing up the Borax solution is easy, its just one cup of borax per one gallon of water. Next just dip a sponge with a scrub pas or a scrub brush into the solution and scrub away. After all the mold is removed while area clean and dry!
How to use Vinegar for Mold Removal
Distilled white Vinegar is great for mold removal. It kills up to 82% of all home mold and does not give off any toxic odors. Vinegar is easy and safe to use throughout the house even in the kitchen and bathroom. You can also keep it in a spray bottle and use it to keep mold from coming back. Just spray it in the shower, around the kitchen and bathroom fixtures or any place else periodically.
There is no mixing or anything like that when using vinegar, just pour it straight into a spray bottle and spray the moldy area till its saturated. Let it set for about an hour and then wipe clean using water. Let the area complete dry afterwards.
You can use a scrubby pad or brush if the moldy area is being stubborn.
How to use Hydrogen Peroxide for Mold Removal
You can use Hydrogen peroxide to effectively kill mold on many surfaces such as bathroom walls, fixtures in the bathroom and kitchen, kitchen appliances,and some cloths and carpets. Do a small test area on any cloths or carpets because it is a natural bleaching agent and you don't want to do any damage to a fabric material.
Using Hydrogen Peroxide for Mold Removal is just as easy as using vinegar. It comes from the store already at a 3% mixture and is ready to use. Just pour it into a spray bottle and soak down the moldy area. Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes and wipe clean. No need to rinse the area with water as hydrogen peroxide has anti-fungal properties to help keep the mold from returning.
If the area is being stubborn you can use a scrub brush or a scrub sponge to loosen the mold before you wipe! You can also use vinegar with hydrogen peroxide for really stubborn areas.
