Designing Kid Friendly Bathroom

Updated on February 6, 2013

For some kids bathroom is a place where they feel out of place and for some it’s all about going on cloud nine. In your home it’s essential to have a kid-friendly bathroom so that they can enjoy bathing, with comforts and fun. But creating a kid-friendly bathroom can be a tricky task. We’ve got some aspects that need attention whist designing a bathroom for the kids that stand the taste of time and create fun.

Spatter Colours

Everyone likes colours but kids are rather keen about them and they just fall in love with wonderful colours. Those of tempting bright colours and lovely designs infatuate them. Such amazing colours really inspire them and also make them more excited in enjoying every minute in their bathrooms. But the most important thing to bear in mind is that too much colours can disturb the look. Thus, it’s a vital task to select right colours.

It’s a good to introduce white or beige on the floor and walls as they‘re considered to be the standard selections for the tiles in any bathroom. Then a blue or green basin will look great if the walls are of neutral or white colours. Similarly yellows, tans or greens go well with kid’s bathtub, as they’re tender enough.

Alongside the colours, patterns are important as well. A beautifully-painted basin can give playful touch to the kids. And the baths having colourful stripes can add to fancy. Likewise, lovely patterns of cartoons or scenery in towels, curtains or soap dispensers can enhance fun in their bathrooms.

Storage Box

Maintaining any bathroom clean and clutter free is essential. Kids rarely do away with the toys even in bathing areas. So you must have right furniture ideas to organise bathroom efficiently. You can go with wicker basket or plastic console with wheels if space is at premium so that they can access it with fun. Also ensure that these furniture don’t have too angular borders for safety purpose.

Accessibility

It is a prerequisite to ensure that kids reach out their needs without inconveniences. Since bathroom is where the user has to usually access knickknacks or toiletries, it should be furnished with all the basic accessories. And for the kids, some indispensible fixtures are needed. For them to reach out basin comfortably, a step stool is necessary. Then automatic faucets ensuring ideal temperature is another better facility for them. Hand showers or adjustable showerheads can allow them easy bathing experience. It is also essential to ensure that the light switches are of good quality and adjusted at lower heights. Lastly, a toilet training seat is just important as it enables safe and comfortable experience.

Safety Must

When it comes to kids’ bathroom, safety measures should be at utmost because kids are prone to slipping or sliding incidents since bathroom is a wet place. To avoid any accident, use bath or shower mat with suction cups with non-slip features. Then soft-close toilet seat to avoid fingers getting pinched, grab bars to move with ease and always use drain caps or plugs for added safety guards.

During designing your kid-friendly bathroom, always ask for their inputs or know their interest or just persuade them for the best fixtures they must do with. Moreover one should never forget to add aesthetic appeals with some stunning artwork fittings or pictures on the wall.
