beach umbrellas, beach tents, and sun umbrellas
Headed to the beach this summer with your beach umbrella? We are! We’re taking the whole gang – grandparents, moms and dads, kids, and even the babies. You know how hot and brutal the sun can be on the beach. If you’re lucky enough to be on a sugar-white gulf beach, the sand itself won’t be hot, but the sun will still be scorching. Sunscreen, of course, will help protect you from the UV rays, but what about the heat?
The answer is a beach umbrella! I love the beach and the sun, and I’ll admit that I had never used an umbrella at the beach before a couple of years ago. That year, my daughter and her family were going with us on vacation, and we couldn’t leave such a small baby unprotected in the July sun. My daughter solved the problem with a large beach sun umbrella!
The beach umbrella worked great! The baby was just a few months old when we went on vacation, and my daughter brought along a playpen. We set it up on the beach and placed the umbrella over it to provide shade for the baby. Our lounge chairs and beach chairs were placed right next to the playpen. While all of us were uncomfortably hot, the baby was perfectly comfy! I read that it’s about twenty degrees cooler in the shade, so no wonder our beach baby was chillin’!
The funny thing was, whenever my daughter went in the beach house so that the baby could take a nap, the rest of us fought over the umbrella. We all wanted to place the beach umbrella over our lounge chair! We finally ended up going to a beach shop to purchase a couple more sun umbrellas.
Different types of beach umbrellas and sun umbrellas
You can find several different types of beach umbrellas and sun umbrellas. Perhaps the most popular type is the traditional beach umbrella with a wooden handle. The end of the pole has been sharpened into a point so that it’s easy to spike in the sand for support.
Another type of beach umbrella comes with a stand. The stand is usually made of metal so that it’s heavy enough to be stable. The sun umbrella’s pole simply inserts into the soft sand.
There’s also a beach umbrella with a sand anchor. Usually made of PVC, the anchor is threaded like a screw, so it “screws into” the sand to provide stability for the umbrella. Once the anchor stand is securely in the sand, you just insert the end of the sun umbrella's pole.
How about a beach chair with your own personal umbrella? The beach umbrella chair is a really cool invention. With this type, the umbrella is attached directly to the beach chair. These even come in kid-size beach chairs, which would be a great way to protect your little ones from the sun.
If you want even more shade, with the addition of some privacy, consider a beach shade shelter. The beach shade shelter is like a beach tent that’s perfect for the beach. A couple of adults or several kids can fit inside a standard beach tent, and it has windows to catch those cool sea breezes. Larger beach tents have lots of room inside, so you might want to go with a bigger size.
You’ll find beach umbrellas, sun umbrellas, and beach shade shelters in several colors, sizes, and prices.
