Get the Most out of Your Mudroom or Entryway
First, I am going to define my space and what I want it to do for me. My Family Command Center will be located in my mudroom. However, it really can be located any where, just pick a space that is easily accessible for what you want to use it for, so it actually gets used.
My mudroom is on the small side, so I really need to plan out the space strategically for all the uses I would like. My must haves to help my family and I stay organized are:
1. I need a space for the kids coats, gloves, hats, shoes, backpacks, and activity gear. I also need it to be easy for them to reach and use, so they will actually put their own things away when walking in the door.
2. A Place for Mom and Dad’s coats, shoes, and accessories.
3. I still need a place where I can put coats for the off season when we are not using them.
4. I also need to store carry-all bags that we use for the pool/baby.
5. Wall pockets that can be used for sorting incoming papers into the following categories:
- Incoming mail (when I don’t have time to separate, right then).
- Actual bills
- Follow up action items
- Coupons
- Magazines that come in from the mail (that eventually when I have time, I like to go through for inspiration ideas)
- Kids – homework, paperwork, and schedules separated by each child.
6. Can't forget about the pet! A place for the dog's bowl, food storage, and accessories.
7. Last, the decorative pieces that bring the mudroom together and give it a cohesive and and welcome home feel.
