Wood furniture is an investment that can last a lifetime if cared for properly. So I have put together a list of furniture tips that is sure to keep your wood furniture looking great for years to come. Now, the first thing to keep your furniture looking good is to provide it with the proper care and maintenance it needs. It is also very important to dust regularly and to fix any problems before or when they occur. The worst thing that you can do is neglect your wood furniture, because this is how it will slowly become ruined.
Here is a list of 4 simple wood furniture tips that if followed regularly will keep your furniture looking new and your investment safe:
Furniture Tip #1
This is probably the most important tip. It happens all the time, people buy a nice piece of wood furniture and just neglect it. How hard is it to really dust it regularly? I mean not everyday, but at the least once a week. Dust also not only gives your home a dirty look, it can damage your furniture.
Furniture Tip #2
If your wood furniture ever becomes dirty, clean it. Grab a soft rag or sponge and lightly dampen it in a mixture of soap and water. Remember not to get it to wet, because you want to avoid saturating the wood with water. This can easily ruin your furniture by warping or destroying the finish.
Also, do not use any soap, use a non-alkaline based soap and remember to dry is immediately. You really don’t want that beautiful piece of wood to rot.
Furniture Tip #3
It is very important to create a natural environment for your wood furniture. Since wood is natural, humidity can play a major role it it’s long term condition. Because of this, you should try and maintain a natural environment that is appropriate for your wood furniture. This is very important especially if you live in an area that is very hot and humid.
Try to maintain a humidity level between 25 and 35 percent. This will make sure thy the wood does not dry out. If there is too much humidity it could warp or the wood can bow. Also, try and keep your furniture out of direct sunlight, because over time it can dry out or even bleach the wood.
Furniture Tip #4
If you ever see that your wood furniture is in need of repair fix it immediately. If you neglect to, a small problem can easily become a very big and costly one. This is really true for chairs or tables, which usually get a lot of daily use.
If you continue to use the damaged furniture, the you run the risk of damaging it more, which can potentially ruin the furniture. If you are experienced yourself, then consider doing it yourself. If not seek a professional.
Since purchasing wood furniture can be a big investment, it is very important to take care of it regularly. If you follow these 4 simple steps, then your furniture will have a much better chance of lasting forever. I know I want mine too.
