Declaring War On Your Garden Pest Naturally

For many gardeners while visions of sweet corn and green beans dance in their hands the pests are dancing in the garden. And you know what one of the big things you can do to help eliminate garden pests is make your garden toad friendly. Take several large clay flower pots and knock a hole near the rim so the toad can get into his new cool house. I bet you didn't know that the common American toad will eat 15.000 garden pests a year. And toads are most active at night so they won't be in your way in the day time when your picking vegetables or working in your garden.

Marigolds and horseradish repel most garden pests. Plant marigolds and horseradish around your garden and the two plants will keep most of your garden pests away. You will want to be sure to give your marigolds extra water on hot days.

Do you have aphids on your roses. Here's a great homemade recipe to get rid of all the aphids from your roses.

You will want to mix 1 Cup Of Orange Peel, 1 Tablespoon of Baby Shampoo and 2 cups of water in your food processor. Once its all chopped up fine strain the liquid off and place into a spray bottle. You can spray your roses with this and it will get rid of the aphids.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could garden with out any interference from garden pests. Beetles attack your squash leafs and young melons but you should make your garden toad friendly by either making toad houses from old clay flower pots. Knock a hole near the rim and you have a toad house. Or you can now buy ready made toad houses that are really cute. And I just can't get over the fact that large toads can eat 15.000 garden pests a year. Keep your toads a small flat bowl of water out and change the water often to prevent mosquito larva development.

Having a toad in the garden is a great natural blessing for the gardener. And if you want your toads to breed and reproduce your going to want to provide a in ground pond in your garden. You want it flush with the ground so the toads can easily get in and out with ease. Toads lay their eggs in two strings of eggs and they hatch in 3-13 days.

The tadpoles will grow up into young toads in 30-40 days and they may spend a while in the pond before they leave the pond.

Toads are cool and are great as pets but you would be better off to leave him or her in the garden where the toad will eat a nightly buffet of garden pests.

Toads have one natural enemy and that is the Eastern Hog Nose Snake. They love toads. But luckily for us toads are around in great abundance and if you can encourage and take care of a breeding colony of toads your garden will be free of pests.

What if you can't find any toads in your yard or garden. You can always order a few and if you have made your garden real toad friendly before you know it your pond will have tadpoles and your toads will be munching on garden pests.

Have you ever used diatomaceous earth? I've read about it but not sure if it will hurt the good insects.
