HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TERI
SHE'S MORE THAN AN EXOTIC PLANT
So into what category do you put a blog that is a tribute to your sister who is very special, a master gardener, and outstanding in her field or is it garden? The final category of exotic plant doesn''t quite do it, but hey, it's the closest I could get! So I hope if you arrived here through google, you won't be too disappointed and maybe you can even contact her and get some help with your garden or landscaping. firstname.lastname@example.org
Now writing a tribute for one younger sister when you forgot the next younger sister's birthday this year is QUITE treacherous, but I'll go for it anywho. And this entire blog is fictional and any resemblance to people alive or dead is totally coincidental. Now is that true? I don't know. When they put that statement at the end of a movie, is it true or just covering everyone's butt. I guess I could say my lawyer told me to put it in, but I don't have a lawyer. Well, not yet!
Some folks just begin to deteriorate and unravel when they turn sixty, but others up the ante. like my sister,Teri. She turns Sixty on April 23. Last week, she signed the charter for the National Association for People Sixty, NAPS. But there no naps for her. She also cut the ribbon for a new Day Spa for women sixty and over called the O-A-R House. It's an acronym for Out and About and Running.
And she’s been out and about and running for quite a few years now. In fact, while running the Calcutta Marathon on her fiftieth birthday, the papparatsi snapped of photo of her pushing Mother Teresa out of the way as she was entering one of the chutes just before the finish line. She placed 329th. Yes Mother Teresa finished 330th! Mother Teresa didn’t always have the old wrinkled look! A reporter heard her shout at Mother Teresa, "Holy Good God Almight, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, get out of my way. Nuns aren't going to hold me back anymore!" Or something like that.
On September 09, 1960, my sister was only ten years old, but she was an old soul even then. Well, she walked a few blocks from our house on Clark Street in Fresno to the Santa Fe Railroad station where John F Kennedy gave a speech from the rear platform of a campaign train.
She never revealed to us what she said to him. But in the Fresno Bee, it was reported that a young girl with black hair, maybe ten years old, was heard saying as she shook his hand, "Stay away from Marylyn." And, of course, Marylyn was and is her older sister, but obviously she was using some kind of double talk. If you look at the picture, you can see Jackie smiling, obviously oblivious of what the young girl is saying, but clearly Jack has a very disturbed and surprised look on his face.
Ten years later, she is credited with the term "tricky Dick" when she shouted out at a campaign appearance by Nixon at the California Hotel in Fresno, "You’re just talking to hear yourself talk, Tricky Dick!"
I always thought my sister would go into politics, but she ended up putting her energies into a different kind of running. She has run more Bay to Breakers than one can shake a Nike Air running shoe at. She has run the race sometimes fully clothed, once pregnant, always sober, (drunk after the race), and on several occasions leaving her husband Joe in the dust.
In recent years, she started her own landscaping business and anyone who is anyone in California has a garden designed and developed by Teri. Yep, a new criteria for knowing if you are someone or not. I know for awhile she was taking quite a few trips to a place North of Santa Barbara. For all I know she was pulling a few weeds for MJ!
As Teri catches up to me in age, I’m looking forward to sitting with her in a garden and sipping red wine, looking young together, and talking truth and truth.
Here’s a reprint of a portion of last years’ tribute to Teri
You know, Michael Moore, was also born on April 23, along with Sandra Dee and Lee Majors. Of course, if we go way back, there’s Shakespeare! Of course, we can’t forget Shirley Temple who looked like you with her curls! And we can’t forget Jim Fixx, the runner. I wonder if Jim is still running. He’d be 77 or 78!
For those of you who do not know Teri, she is a powerful voice in the wilderness. She steps up at the moment when everyone else has buried their head in the sand. It’s an incredible experience. Man, there’s feathers all over the place!!
And don't forget the Beattles have a song for you. Click on the link
Perhaps the photos all say it best, what a WONDER-FILLED sister you are to me. HAPPY BIRTHDAY

You know when you receive a flyer in the mail that your friendly neighborhood bank wants to help you or that the local branch of a megabank has a deal for you, you don’t, for a second, really believe that, do you?...
For the stick in the mud, let’s-get-it-on-and-over-with type, (probably a guy!) spending any amount of time exploring this question could be hard and as boring and perhaps as frustrating as foreplay. So I...
