How To Paint Horizontal Stripes & Add Contemporary Design
Give Your Room a Contemporary Design in SIX Easy Steps
Sometimes we just need to add a little oomph to our rooms, whether it's a bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen, horizontal stripes add so much interest to these spaces, on a small budget. Below, I will show you step by step how to add these beautiful stripes anywhere to your home or office and give your room a whole new look.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED: Tape Measure, Level, Pencil, Paint Roller, Paint
1. GET STARTED
GET STARTED with the tape measure and mark with a pencil thickness of each stripe (35 cm). Repeat the process at several points that will go perfectly straight lines. I recommend measuring from ceiling to floor then divide by however many stripes you desire; this will tell you how far apart to mark your stripes. DON'T FORGET to have the lightest paint color (base) already dried before drawing lines for the darker color.
2. DRAW LINES
With a pencil. To prevent them from becoming twisted, use a level and see the lines tracing from one extreme to another, with reference marks. A great tool to use is the leveler that you can attach to the wall and then follow the line it projects onto the wall, it's handsfree and much easier.
4. TAPE THE LINES
Follow the lines drawn using blue painters tape. Make sure the tape is sealed against the wall securely or when you begin to paint, the paint may run behind the tape causing bleeding lines to appear.
5. ROCK & ROLL
Using a paint roller, stay within the tape lines, you may need two coats to cause a more dramatic, contrasting affect. For this paint color you can use a shade darker of the base for a slight change or you can add a completely different color for a dramatic affect.
Give your paint 24 to 48 hours to dry completely, then remove the painters tape, pulling towards you and away from the wall as you walk slowly across the wall, revealing your new masterpiece!
YOU DID IT!!!!!
