A teaspoon of household dust will contain about 2000 dust mites and an estimated 250.000 allergy causing dust mite waste pellets. In a average six room American house 80 pounds of dust is produced each year naturally. Exposure to dust mites and their waste products causes an estimated 150.000 emergency room visits a year.
In order to keep down dust in your home place natural material mats outside the entrance doors to your home and encourage people to remove their shoes when coming in from the outside. Use a brush to clean shoes that are worn outdoors on a regular basis.
All the upholstery fabric in your home should be cleaned at least every four months. You can do this yourself or have a professional in to do it.
When you buy new furniture purchase only furniture covered in vinyl or leather. Don't purchase fabric covered upholstered furniture.
Another thing you can do is to purchase HEPA air filters and run them in combination with the dehumidifier in your bedroom to make it into an unhealthy habitat for dust mites in your bedroom.
Cut the clutter as much as possible. Don't store things under your bed or on closet floors unless you absolutely have to. Don't use cardboard boxes what ever you do. If you must have storage containers use only plastic boxes with tight covered lids.
Keep The Dust In Your House To A Minimum
Any shoes worn outside should be taken off as near the door as possible. If you must wear shoes in the house purchase bedroom shoes or house slippers.
Place natural fiber mats outside all entrance doors to your house and insist on everyone scraping their feet on them before coming in the house.
Mop any floor you can at least once a week with a dampened dust mop to keep dust out of your house.
Vacuum your carpets at least twice a week. Use only a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter system.
Vacuum your mattresses at least once a month. Use the crack and crevice tool to be sure everything gets very well cleaned. Vacuum the back of your headboards and under your bed.
Do everything you can to eliminate all the dust from your home that you possibly can.
Wash and clean all air conditioning and heating filters once a week. Be sure that they stay as clean as possible.
Keep in mind that at all time dust and the mites it contains is your enemy. Fight your enemy and try to eliminate any possible dust from your home.

You don't realize it but your inhaling the waste products from dust mites. You should also know that when some children are exposed to dust mites they develop asthma.
Most people have no ideal what they are living with. There are dust mites living in your mattress, in your bedding, in your pillows, in your children's stuffed toys, in fabric furniture, and in your carpet. Even in the cleanest home there are dust mites in your house. In most American homes the beds are simply crawling with dust mites and their resulting waste.
As hard as it may be for you to believe the average mattress in America contains between 100.000 and 10.000.000 dust mites. Yes 10 million dust mites. Here's a scary one for you. 20 to 50 percent of the weight of the average pillow on your bed is made up of dust mites.
Due to the light weight of the dust mites they often become airborne. This can happen when your making the bed or the children are jumping on the bed. When this happens the dust mites get spread throughout your house and yes you even inhale some of them as they are for a time floating in the air. Eight five percent of all Americans don't realize that the air in their homes is not healthy for them and their children.

You should keep a close eye on your breathing especially if you are experiencing the above symptoms. If your experiencing labored breathing that causes whistling sounds or rattling sounds in your chest you may well have dust mite allergies. How To Get Rid Of Dust Mites
Dust mites like to live in our beds with us because the beds are warm and we provide them with their food supply. They live off dead skin cells that fall off your body all the time and they also eat dandruff.
You can use a HEPA filter equipped vacuum cleaner, your washing machine, and a spray allergen to get rid of dust mites. You may not get rid of all of them but you can eliminate a huge portion of their population. If you do it on a regular basis you can have a almost dust mite free home.
First of all don't let dirty clothes lay around. Try to wash your dirty clothes on a regular basis. At least once a week wash all the bedding on your bed including sheets, pillow cases, quilts, and blankets. If your really sensitive to dust mites do this twice a week.
You will want to use pillows that are made of a synthetic filling or foam. If you have other types of pillows and you don't want to get rid of the pillow or pillows freeze the pillow or pillows in your freezer while your gone for the day. While your washing your children's bedding be sure to wash the stuffed animals to. Freeze any stuffed animals you can't wash for at least four hours. This will kill any dust mites in the stuffed animals. Freezing pillows or stuffed animals kills the mites but it doesn't get rid of their waste products.
While the covers are off the mattresses spray the beds with a good quality spray allergen. This is where its very important to use a good quality product. Be sure to read the label. What is the product made of and what is it supposed to do. I hate to say it but you get what you pay for. Here you want to spend the extra dollars to get a high quality allergen. Be sure to flip your mattress over at least once a week. Spray the allergen on the parts of the mattress that are hidden like the part against the wall.
When you purchase new box springs or mattresses that are covered with protective plastic leave the plastic covering on the mattress and box springs. This will keep dust mites out and help to keep your bed dust mite free. When you do wash your bedding let the mattress air out for the day before you put the sheets and covers back on the bed. You can purchase a mattress cover to put your mattress in. Ideally it should go around your mattress and zip closed. Be sure to spray the mattress cover down with a allergen spray and wipe it down once a week.
Set your bed out from the wall and vacuum all around it at least once a week with a HEPA filter equipped vacuum cleaner. Be sure to vacuum the back of your headboard. If you can set your bed out from the wall and leave it that way if possible. If you can don't let curtains touch your bed. Don't forget to take down and wash the curtains at least once a week. Especially if you know you have a dust mite problem.
If you don't have carpet on your bedroom floor be sure to mop under your bed with a good cleaning solution at least once a week. This will insure that under your bed stays clean and it will cut down on dust considerably. And you will have fewer mites if you cut down on dust.
