Incredible Gilded Military Patch Replicas

Replica Military Patches

After a while of working on other projects while Justin was considering new directions to take with his tiles we are back to show you some of what's been going on over the last several months. For those of you that are new followers and the ones that have visited before I'll give you an overview of what you're actually seeing. About a year and a half ago Justin and I were fooling around with the idea of putting my photos and his art on ceramic tiles. We found a resin based material that we could print and apply to the tiles which, at the time, we thought looked great and were very happy with. As with lots of projects while the tiles depicted great reproductions of our art it just seemed to be no longer good enough. Even though all the tiles were totally original they just started to seem like the same thing any number of other folks were doing so Justin, with his multi-media art background, came up with the idea of using an old art form known as gilding in a new, totally different way. Gilding is the art of applying metal material commonly refered to as "leaf" to a nonporous substrate to enhance a design and is also commonly used on art frames and by jewelers. Unlike any of those uses these fine art hand cut designs are like nothing you've seen anywhere else, having been created and all hand cut by Cincinnati artist Justin Kistner. All are available for sale on Etsy and take a look at our other designs of nature on our website gildntile.com Thanks for taking time to check them out, we hope you like them as much as we do.

Thanks Fossillady, they still amaze me too. Justin's skill and patience far outweigh mine. Thanks again for your kind words of encouragement.

Hey Hey my dear friend...good to see you back here, though I am sure it won't be for long...:O)

Wow you two have come a Looong way..I IMAGINE THEY ARE much more beautiful in person. So he is painting along with and including the "leaf"? As you said "he has spent many an hour" with such precision it boggles the mind...

I know you are very proud as you should be, but you get some of the credit...in my eyes anyways...God Bless :O) Hugs Love and Peace...Merle Ann

Hey Merle Ann, yeah I've been trying to read some new hubs but it gets hard to keep up with. The tiles really have gotten better and better. I think he even surprises himself sometimes. He hasn't been painting but is trying to figure out how to incorporate glow in the dark paint with the tiles. I love that idea but it's got to be used sparingly so it adds to the design not detract from it. The only credit I could take is that maybe he gets some of my patience:-) Good to hear from you, thanks for taking time to check them out. Peace and Love...Tom

Although I'm not familiar with military patches Tom, these look very attractive on the screen. But I would guess that they look even more impressive in real life, and would surely make for a good collector's item.

I see from your website that other designs have also been created, and so I really hope the project has gone from strength to strength and has proved fruitful for you both. Very impressive artwork. Voted up. Alun

Hi Alun, thanks and yes they are better in person. The refractive qualities of the metal leaf make it impossible to scan or photograph them so that you can appreciate all the work. The tiles have gotten even better than the ones you've seen so I guess I need to do another hub. I think now it looks as if he's actually painting with the leaf (don't expect me to explain that though :-) Sorry I was late replying I just bought a new hard drive after being down for a couple of days. Hope all's well with you, it's always good to hear your thoughts, they're much appreciated!
