Kitchen Storage Solutions

Over time in any home, kitchens can develop a tremendous amount of clutter, which is why homeowners need to budget self storage options for all their cookware and goods. There are many different options available to help reduce clutter and get your kitchen organized. Organizing and cleaning your kitchen can lead to a stress-free cooking zone, and can even contribute to making the kitchen a fun and relaxing place to be.

The key to success in this regard is to keep as many items off of the kitchen counters as possible but yet still have them easily accessible. One very popular and useful idea for storage in the kitchen is to install rotating lazy susans in cabinets that hold smaller items. Turntables can help organize and de-clutter your cabinets and provide you easy access to everything in them. They are particularly useful for spice cabinets, small dishes, condiments and cooking oils, even canned goods in your pantry. You can also find racks for mounting either inside or outside the doors and cabinets in your kitchen, and these can provide a space for your spices, dish towels, or boxes of wraps and sheets like foil and saran wrap.

You can also make use of non-traditional or ancillary kitchen furniture to save some space in the kitchen. Armoires, buffets, and shelving racks in the dining room can store less frequently used plates and glassware so that you won’t run the risk of damaging it. You can also purchase a kitchen island separately that will provide an additional cooking space, allowing you to use the counters more liberally. Keep towels and aprons from having to take up space in drawers or cabinets by hanging them on hooks. You can get either over-the-door hooks, plastic hooks that adhere to wood for inside cabinet doors, or even magnetic hooks for the refrigerator, if you do not have a stainless steel fridge.

Hanging is also becoming a very popular storage solution in the kitchen, and if you have the room you should take advantage of it. You can buy or build a rack from which you can hand your more beautiful cookware. Many such racks mount around light fixtures and so not only are attractive but also practical, as the remove all of your pots and pans from the cabinets. You can also hang pans from nails or hooks on the wall, and these again save space while creating a charming, rustic look.

Glassware can be treated in the same fashion. Keep wine glasses or champagne flutes out of the cabinets by installing either an under-cabinet glass rack or hanging them over the kitchen bar. You can also use an old TV stand or armoire as a liquor cabinet, keeping it out in the area in which you will entertain guests. Beer glasses and mugs can be kept in the freezer, not only satisfying your need for space but also pleasantly surprising your guests with a frosty mug.

There are literally countless ways to save space in a kitchen, and especially in older homes this can be a very important skill. Whether you are entertaining guests or just want to simplify your lifestyle, try a few of these methods to help your kitchen look and function better.
