Review of the Shark S3501N Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop

What is a steam mop?

A steam mop uses the power of steam to clean and remove stains from any hard surface floor, such as wood, ceramic tile, marble tile and linoleum. Major manufacturers of steam mops are Shark, Haan, Eureka and Bissell.

Steam mops have many benefits. They clean without the use of chemicals, so they are eco friendly. They are also much easier to use than a standard mop. Removing stubborn stains using a steamer mop requires far less effort.

s3501N Review

If you go to amazon.com, you will find that the Shark Steam Pocket Mop s3501N has only 3.5 stars, which I found very surprising. I have been using my s3501 for a year and I love it. Some negative reviewers complained about their floors looking dull after using the steam mop. This can be avoided by washing wax-free floors with a mix of vinegar and water before using a steamer mop for the first time. Use ½ cup of white distilled vinegar and half a gallon of warm water. This will remove the residue from previous floor cleaning chemical products.

Regular mops do not clean floors as well as you probably think they do. When I first washed my floors with the Shark steam mop, there was enough dirt to completely cover both sides of all three microfiber pads. After that initial cleaning, I can usually get away with using only one pad weekly for my whole downstairs, which is wood and ceramic tile.

Shark s3501N Pros

Dual sided mop heads – both sides of the microfiber pad can be used, so you have to change pads less frequently. This is very important because the head of a steam mop gets so hot, you have to unplug it and let it cool down before changing the pad. So, the less you have to change the pads, the faster you can clean your floors.

Large mop heads – two of the three mop heads are quite large, so you can clean large areas at one time. There is also a small triangle shaped head, which is handy for harder to reach areas and corners.

Large water tank – the tank holds enough water (H2O) to clean approximately 2,000 square feet of floor.

Swivel head - the swivel head makes it easy to maneuver around furniture and get into tight spots.

Long power cord – I can clean my whole downstairs with only one plug change. The power cord is 30 feet in length

Light weight – it is very easy to take upstairs and downstairs

Heats up quickly - it only takes 30 seconds to heat up, so you can start cleaning almost immediately

Shark s3501N Cons

There are strict cleaning instructions for the 3 microfiber pads. They cannot be washed with anything else and only a liquid detergent can be used.

Because of the swivel head, the mop can’t stand by itself, which is a problem for storage. It must be put against something. Shark recommends hanging it up when not in use.

These complaints are minor compared to the many benefits of the Shark Steam Pocket Mop.
